Re: What Are You Reading ?(September 2014)
Just starting the multi-award winning "Ancillary Justice" by Ann Leckie - which I think a few others may have mentioned in earlier threads, as I've certainly seen it referenced somewhere online that I've visited.

Re: What Are You Reading? (October 2014)
Frankenstein by Mary Shelly
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...4,203,200_.jpg I haven't read it since I was a kid, and I didn't understand it then. The book was definitely written by a teenage girl. Everyone is so pretty, and the people are so nice, and everyone loves each other so much that they have rainbows coming out of their asses . . . except for the experiment and the monster, which are icky. But I hadn't realized what an immature and selfish person Frankenstein was, or that the monster was his physical, intellectual, and moral superior. |

Re: What Are You Reading? (October 2014)
Finished:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ainbowsEnd.jpg Having really enjoyed Vinge's other novels, I was rather surprised at how much of a slog this was to read (especially since it was a Hugo winner for best novel). The technology was unrealistic (it's only set 11 years from now) and the "technobabble" was nearly incomprehensible to me (and I've tons of jargon-heavy sci-fi over the years). I have his last novel, The Children of the Sky, ready but now I'm hesitant. |

Finished up the last one, liked it as much as the others. It looks like there is one more after this, so hopefully Martin will have his second to last book out by the time I finish A Dance with Dragons. |

Re: What Are You Reading? (October 2014)
I like to read horror books this time of year. My Kindle's busted, so I'm limited to what the library has on hand. Starting this tonight:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SH20_OU01_.jpg The library only carries the large print edition. I'm going to feel like a speed reader. Also planning on reading some of these short stories: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SH20_OU01_.jpg Finished: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SH20_OU01_.jpg I consider the movie to be the scariest one I've ever seen - it affected me greatly - so naturally I was morbidly curious about the book. It did not disappoint. Normally I read before bed, but limited this one to daylight hours. I'm a wuss. :) (I did not read the 40th anniversary edition that is pictured.) http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SH20_OU01_.jpg Put me in the camp that liked the book overall, hated the ending. Looking forward to seeing the movie at some point. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...4,203,200_.jpg The good part of my Kindle being broken is that it's forcing me to tackle my large stack of Hard Case Crime paperbacks. This one was more lighthearted than HCC's usual gritty fare. |

Re: What Are You Reading? (October 2014)
Just finished this
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SH20_OU01_.jpg I only got it because it was free, and I don't usually like fantasy much, but it was really good. Next up http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SH20_OU01_.jpg because I wanted to switch things up (and also read a shorter book) But then I'll be reading this http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SH20_OU01_.jpg |

No, it's pronounced "Fronkensteen."
