Lovecraftian Horror Recommendations

After reading a lot of Lovecraft, and discovering Thomas Ligotti I'd like some pointers on what are some great novels about Lovecraftian Horrors or have Lovecraftian Horror themes.

14 by Peter Clines. This was one of my favorite reads of 2013.

Re: Lovecraftian Horror Recommendations

I remember enjoying Our Lady of Darkness by Fritz Leiber.

Re: Lovecraftian Horror Recommendations

Most people don't realize that the original Conan the Barbarian stories often have Lovecraftian monstrosities in them.

Since Howard and Lovecraft were both good friends and artistic associates, that's not surprising.

^^^^

Most people probably don't realise that, either

Lumley's Necroscope series of books have been discussed here before. I think they, too, may fit the bill.

Hell, in his early career he wrote a lot of stuff that was no-doubt-about-it Lovecraftian. I wouldn't call them "great" but I enjoyed them.

If you're talking about Howard and Leiber, there was a lot of stuff that came from Lovecraft's circle that fits the bill. Robert Bloch, August Derleth, Frank Belknap Long, and Clark Ashton Smith were my favorites. Not many novels though ... Bloch's "Strange Eons" is the only one that comes to mind.

It's going back a ways but T.E.D. Klein wrote some good Lovecraftian stuff in the 80s. He wrote a big novel: "The Ceremonies", and some novellas collected in "Dark Gods". Both are out of print, but they seemed to have large printing runs so shouldn't be hard to find used. [Just looked it up. "Ceremonies" is cheap but "Dark Gods" seems to have virtually disappeared. Even low-grade paperbacks start at $40. Damn! A few years ago I had 2 copies of that book and practically gave one away to a used book store ]

Some recent works that I liked with a Lovecraftian bent:

"John Dies at the End" (the sequel is on my to-read list)

I really like Caitlin R. Kiernan. She has her own mythology but Lovecraft's influence is strong. And she mixes that to make her own style, with modern-day characters and a southern gothic atmosphere.

Horror pulp writer Graham Masterton did a Lovecraft homage in "Prey". It's silly and trashy but I enjoyed it (which describes a lot of Masterton's work). While it has the creatures/characters of HPL, it's about as Lovecraftian in style as Stuart Gordon's "Re-Animator" though.
