"The Wise Man's Fear" by Patrick Rothfuss. The prose is good but the meandering plot of the first couple of hundred pages reminds me of a slightly more "adult" Harry Potter book. Having said that, Kvothe as a character has about ten times the depth of ol' HP. In reviews, it looks like this book gets more than a little 'Wheel of Time"-ey in later chapters. The first book was pretty good so I'll stick with this one.
The first book was pretty good. It's going to make a good TV show.

Very good. I liked John Rector's last book (Already Gone). This was better. Starts right up on page 1 and doesn't let up until the end. Good quick read (only around 250 pages). Very lean. No wasted words.

Now on the third of Ben Aaronovitch's increasingly enjoyable Peter Grant series, "Whispers Underground".
As well as the very well-crafted tale itself, it is fun spotting the nods and winks Aarnonovitch tips - sometimes very obliquely, sometimes less so - to various cultural icons from Black Adder to Neil Gaiman.

That is on my "to read" shelf because I have been enjoying Cook's P.I. Garrett series. I realise that they are far-removed from each other, in tone and content.
After finishing the third Peter Grant book, I've just started the third in Jonathan L. Howard's Cabal books: "The Fear Institute".
