I enjoyed Last Call enough that I'm re-reading Expiration Date by Tim Powers.

I just love old pulp novels and there's an abundance of places to find them in the Chicago area if you know where to look.

However, after reading that pretty good Erle Stanley Gardner novel, I'm reading something a bit more contemporary:

I've never read Crews before.

It's enjoyable, but nothing groundbreaking. I hear his latest novel (The Racketeer) is actually quite good though. I still read Grisham because The Firm is the first book that I read for pleasure when it came out and is what got me into reading when I was younger. Feel like I kind of owe it to the guy.

Hey, it's okay to admit you're an aspiring gumshoe detective. Nothing wrong with that.

Re: What are you reading? (June 2013)

Just started Charles Stross' "The Apocalypse Codex" but may have to stop as it looks like I've omitted book three, "The Fuller Memorandum".

Also just found a couple of free online shorts set in the same mileu:

RE: Joyland

I have only read about 50 pages so far, but I think I'm really going to enjoy it.
