Re: What are you reading? (March 2013)
I just finished Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself and... I'm just not sure I really loved it. I can honestly say that had I had something else available when I finish I most likely would have switched. As it was all I had was his second book so I've started that.

Last finished The Seduction of Peter S. by Lawrence Sanders. My first time reading him, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
I then got about half way through Madame Bovary but finally gave it up, I just thought it was too tediously boring. Now reading Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler |

Finally started reading this. The pending CBS series this summer gave me the needed motivation. ;)

I read a lot and Joe Abercrombie kind of mystifies me. I hate all of his characters. Every time one of them seems to be interesting, it'll turn out that they have some appalling backstory. You'll have your Aragorn analog, but they will have some horrific backstory. Or you'll have a loose Gandalf analog, and they will just turn out to be horrible people. It's like interviewing a relative for a school newspaper and finding out they used to be a bodyguard for Stalin. Skilled writer other than that, just seems to be for people with a more cynical mindset than me.

Fifty Shades of Grey.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SH20_OU01_.jpg I'm a hundred and twenty pages into it. I think I'm about done. The tale of a seduction always reads better than back-to-back sex scenes. I enjoyed the first 28 pages of The Story of O, and then the rest of the book was a drag. If I'm not enjoying it, I don't make myself push through a book anymore. |
