Tropper's books are always entertaining, and this is no exception.

It was... OK, I guess. I didn't really feel like it went anywhere, and I must have missed the point, if there was one.

This was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize? Really?
It was average - at best.

This was a really fun book but I had very, very high expectations for it and it didn't meet them. I was hoping for a bit more "serious" thriller / social commentary components, but once I took this as an adventure book (not a typical post-apocalyptic novel) then I enjoyed the ride.

<hr>

Also finished Babette's Feast by Karen Blixen. Fantastic short story.

"What are you reading? (November 2012)"

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/book-talk/6...er-2012-a.html

It was kinda short. Mostly pictures. No real payoff. No characters with whom I could identify. I was disappointed.

I guess I shouldn't complain...it was free...but still...

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the dystopian/post-apocalyptic genre and a huge fan of 80's nostalgia. The 80's fan in me was way more satisfied.

Between reading sections of my current Glen Cook collection I've slotted in Art Borgeau's "Murder at the Cheating Heart Motel".

Not bad, a little rambling and non-linear. I found the parts about how they actually smuggled the cocaine to be really interesting.

Re: What are you reading? (November 2012)

Finished Ammon Shea's The Phone Book, a history of the phone book. Breezy read, a bit too light for my tastes but entertaining.

Now reading Erik Larson's In the Garden of Beasts:
