Enjoyed this quite a bit. One of the best books I've read this year.

Re: What are you reading? (July 2012)
I remember seeing the first book when it came out in the library. It looked good so I read it. I was like, wow that was great, can't wait for the next one. Then I read the second one and thought, wow that was great, can't wait for the next one. Then I was reading book number 47 or 221, I forget which, and I thought what the hell, will this never end. Then Jordan died.
I really liked Jordans' Conan books though.

Back to Urban Fantasy
Now on Kevin Hearne's "Hammered".
Although enjoying these books as a light entertainment, the page/wordcount is such that I think the publishers could have put the first three books together as one to provide true value for money.
The idea of the trilogy now seems so ingrained in the (particularly fantasy) publishing world that even relatively short works such as Hearne's first three are issued separately when, essentially, they are installments of an interconnected arc. Compared to some of the door-stoppers I have seen, this makes completing reading the "series" relatively expensive. Authors have to make a living of course but we are all looking for value these days and I've been tempted to go for second-hand books to reduce my outlay and I succumb to that temptation more readily if I think I'm being gouged. Perhaps a topic for another thread!

12,13 and 14 are written by Brandon Sanderson using vast notes and dictations from Jordan. 12 was really good, I am about to start 13 and 14 (the final one!) comes out in January.

To be fair, I only started reading them last year...I can imagine I would be a bit more critical if I had to wait 3 years or so between books and then read something like book 8.
