Scooped up Steal Like An Artist and devoured it in one sitting. It's required reading if you're in the creative field.

Has anybody read "The Thousand Autumns Of Jacob De Zoet" by David Mitchell? I'm about a hundred pages in and wondering when it gets interesting.

Big fan of Stephenson. I haven't read any of the Quicksilver books though. I've heard they're a bit more of a chore, but I'm sure I'll wade in someday. How was the first one?

The only other book of his I have read is Cryptonomicon. So far, I would consider Quicksilver to be very similar. All the history is covered through a fictional character that befriends a bunch of famous faces, in this case Newton, Leibniz, etc.

Quicksilver is actually broken into 3 books. The first book has a lot of the historical stuff and was enjoyable but takes time to read. I recently started the second book, focusing on the Shaftoe character and it reads a lot quicker as there is much less "math fiction" in this section.

Overall, I am enjoying it.

Re: What are you reading? (February 2012)

Finished The Big Sleep.
Finished The High Window this morning. Chandler rocks.

I also noticed a bit of dialogue where someone said, "She ought to of told me that" back in 1939. I thought the error was much newer.

Finished:

Good, yet somewhat disturbing. Definitely not on par with a typical Russell Banks novel.
