I remember reading a story about that in one of our school literature books, and I'm hard-pressed to find that story on the internet. I may be wrong about the title, but if anyone remembers something, like the author, that would be great. Thanks.

From what you've written, you are talking about a single author collection that was of a standard sufficient to be included amongst the books available at school.

I am sure that there will be more than one volume meeting those criteria but would first mention Mary Shelley's "Transformation" which finishes with a tale entitled... "The Evil Eye" of which I have seen it written online

".... In spite of its title, it’s less supernatural than the previous two, and relies more on fateful coincidence and superstition. Dmitri’s wife is killed and his daughter abducted. Almost dying in the attempt to find her, he is saved by a man, Ziani, and they are bound together in friendship. No. I also seem to remember (or think I do) that the person with the evil eye was a good person, and that he had no control over the evil eye. So this person kept himself at home, and occasionally looked out the window.

I may also remember (maybe falsely) that this person, disgusted with the eye, rips it out of his own head.

Edgar Allen Poe's story "The Tell-Tale Heart" refers to an old man with a "Vulture" eye.
