Huck Finn to be given the PC treatment
Not sure if anyones mentioned this or not, but some publishers decided to release an edition with the word '***********' removed so as to spare peoples feelings. I'm sure their hearts ar ein the right place, but it still strikes me as stupid and wrong.

Well since I believe this was a book first...
Every publisher that does this needs to get fired. Or just given a good bitch-slapping for messing with Twain.

Its not just the "N" word that they want to change, they also want to change Injun Joe to Indian Joe, and Half Breed to Half Blood, if people are so thin skinned they should just read Go Dog Go. The PC Police should just take every book, film, lyric or image that offends and burn it, that way everybody is safe.

It's a public domain novel. Anyone can rewrite it in any way they want. If you don't like this edition, create your own anti-PC version and publish it in the Amazon Kindle store.

In retaliation, a new version of Tombstone is being rushed to market where Doc Holliday remarks "I'm your ***********".

Never, ever get in the way of a white guy who insists on his Christ-given right to say '**********'
And this "updating" of Huckleberry Finn is so fucking retarded and mind-numbingly misguided, it hardly abides the telling.

Re: Huck Finn to be given the PC treatment
fucking ridiculous. this is absurd, its a fucking word - now politics is taking over literature... GREAT. a word is nothing unless the speaker holds emotion behind it and it does hold a lot of emotion, but only in the context of the book. no one reading this book (currently) was a slave, and neither were their parents. so for any modern african-american to even take such offense (and i mean on the level of a slave being called a "******," not an african-american being called a "******" today just because he/she is black) to the word is just an excuse. its not like someone is calling the reader a "******," it is a book and huck finn is an masterpiece. to fuck something so royally up is just beyond me. midget -> little people, retard -> slow/special, janitor -> custodian, "******" in huck finn -> slave ... something is wrong with society and their "virgin" ears. "******" means "stupid" and someone can say much less (non taboo words) with more hate behind them then how casually the word "******" is throw around today. /end rant

Whatever will they do about the title of Joseph Conrad's novel "The [dark-skinned person] of The Narcissus"?
*** Funny story: As an English major in college, I haunted a local used bookstore that had cheap (usually no more than a quarter) paper copies of books by classic authors. One of those was the aforementioned book. One day a black guy (whom I played intramural football with) wandered into my dorm room & was talking with me while browsing my paperback stash when he spotted the book. He picked it up, said, "Hmmm..."The ****** of the Narcissus", and strolled out with the book.
I always wondered whether he was just curious, wanted to remove the offensive title, or was disappointed when it turned out not be porn.
However, I never brought it up to him, nor did he ever mention it. Some things are best left alone.

What's worse is what he's replacing it with: "slave". It conflates race and slavery in an inaccurate way: all slaves were black, but not all blacks were slaves.

At what age to schools usually have kids read Huck Finn? I remember reading it in high school which I think is an appropriate age.
