HI everyone,

I'm looking into buying one for my wife, but had a question about purchasing books:

I've heard you can purchase books on the unit itself...but didn't know if this was reliant on a wireless signal or cell signal.

We live in a small area that doesn't even have 3G coverage for cell phones.

Will this be a problem?

I think that will be a problem. It uses a free connection to a 3G network. I have yet to try it in a place that doesn't have 3G coverage.

As an alternate you could get a nook which has Wi-Fi or use a PC to load your purchases and then the Kindle will be fine if 3G isn't an option.

If you do decide to buy one, you might wait a little while until the new version is released, to see if that's something you'd rather have. Should be soon.

sounds like you wouldnt be able to dl wirelessly although you still can get the books via the pc ..speculation is new one may be coming out in aug but again thats just rumor at this pioint
meanwhile they have dropped the price on the current model to 189
just an fyi - my signal is weak by me ..im lucky i get two bars but its still enough to dl books
