Recently read a bunch of Asimov short stories and want to get into his novels. I keep hearing about the Foundation series being the best so I figured I'd read them in chronological order. Should I have started way at the beginning with I, Robot and Caves of Steel?

There are surely more qualified people to comment than I (I have just read the three main Foundation novels and I, Robot), but my opinion: I wouldn't worry about it too much. Even reading the three in order (while logical and recommended) didn't seem totally necessary. There are common threads that go through the books, but the bulk of the narrative occurs as discrete stories occuring between (sometimes pretty radical) time jumps.

I'm beginning to see why Crichton left it in a drawer.

Quite the change in pace from my last book, Tess of D'Urbervilles.

I think that I am going to try to finish the Bosch series over the next couple of weeks. After this book, there are four left, and there are a couple of other non-Bosch books that I've yet to read from Connelly as well.

Giving this one another shot. After how fun the first two books were, I originally couldn't read past 15 pages on this one. Going to do my best to stick with it this time.

I didn't care for this sequel - pretty much the consensus it seems - although I was able to finish it. It's a fairly quick read. If you decide to give up on it again, don't let that hinder you from reading the latest book in the series. There are a couple of important events that continue, but the worst parts of book 3 are ignored since they just didn't work.

I've heard from people around the Book Forums that the new book is definitely better than this one.

I'm about 110 pages into Book 3, so there is no turning back now. This book is sort of "meh" so far minus
Spoiler:
Dexter's Dark Passenger being frightened off, which is a neat idea.

My main push to get Book 3 done (other than loving the Dexter books & show) is so I can buy/read the new one

Finally finished The Sexual Life of Catherine M. by Catherine Millet (translation by Adriana Hunter). It was simultaneously highbrow and vulgar, fascinating and monotonous. I'm not sure how much of this is due to the work being a translation and how much is just that Millet's vocabulary tends to be too "showy."

In any event, I think I'm going to read Skipping Christmas by John Grisham next. I picked it up this summer for a quarter, and if I don't read it before Christmas, it'll just collect dust until this time next year.

I'm thinking of doing something similar. I started The Closers yesterday. I would like to be current on the Bosch series -- there are a few other series I then plan on delving in to.
