V The Second Generation discussion

Has anyone here read this book yet?

I just finished it and was wondering what others thought about it.
I wanted to put off reading it, until after I saw he new mini-series, but who knows if that will ever happen.

Spoiler:
Just tring to figure out how to use spoilers, so I don't ruin this book for anyone

Looks like I figured out spoiler tags so here it goes.

Spoiler:

I really like liked alot about this book. I was really happy with the surviving characters from the original, while the missing charachters show how difficult the last 20 years had been. I wish Ham Tyler was in it, but I don't think he would have fit into the story very well anyway. No mention of Daniel, Brian, or Robin Maxwell. I thought that was a little odd. It was sometimes predictable, I knew who was Diana's special prisoner was, I knew also who was the unwitting spy in the resistance, and I knew the Zedti could not be trusted. I did not forsee the Leader being female or Ruby's fate, so it did catch me off gaurd in places.

Look like the book has left itself open for a sequel. Diana is still free, The Zedti are the new visitors, and Nathan and Margarita are probably the new Donovan and Julie. Hopefully we can get a series of book if the mini-sries never happens.

By the way Gooder = worse nick name ever, The Fixer = the greatest. Just a randon thought.

I'd also like to "watch it before i read it", but I imagine the mini-series will be years away (if at all). So I think i'm gonna go ahead and read it, but I need to watch the original mini-series again first since it has been many a year since I last saw it.

Did you like the book?

I did like the book and am glad I went ahead and read it.

One thing to note, I don't think if the mini-series ever got made of this, that it would or could be 100% true to the book. That may be what the hold up is for getting the new Mini-series going. So it is possible to read the book now and still get some surprises if the mini ever gets made.

Things that may have to change for the tv mini -
Spoiler:

1 - 2 young teen girls die - may be to bleak for a tv viewing public
2 - The flying motorcycle has a good chance to look very cheesy in live action
3 - The special effects to make the Zedti look right might be expensive pluse I doubt they will be naked.
4 - They need to work in some type of cameo for Ham Tyler and Chris Farber. Atleast them standing in the back ground at a resistance meeting.
5 - Most fans, including me, would like more details on the fate of John,Brian, and Steven of the visitors and Robin, the star child, Daniel, Elias, Caleb, Kristine Walsh, and Eleanor Dupres of the humans. The only ones touched upon slightly in the book was John and Elias.

I'm about half-way through it...I think it's great (certainly better than "The Final Battle" - which Kenny Johnson had virtually NOTHING to do with...he's actually never even watched it).

I'm a little shocked it didn't get a bigger roll-out press-wise...most people I talk to didn't even know a book was out!

The last update about "V" on Kenny Johnson's website (a 2/12 update) indicated that they were still working on putting a deal together to get it in front of the cameras...I believe the newest deal they're working on actually has it being released as a THEATRICAL film through Warners, which would be very, very exciting if it came to pass!

In the past year, NBC passed, a deal couldn't be worked out with ABC, and although they were close to a deal with AMC, that fell through as well.

I guess they couldn't cut a deal with Sci-Fi channel either, since Universal owns the Sci-Fi Channel and Warners (which owns "V") refused to work out a deal (Kenny compares it to Ford and Chevy trying to make a car together!).
