What are you reading (August 2007)?

I picked up Philip K Dick's "Time Out Of Joint" after a weekend telephone conversation with my brother along the lines of which PKD book novel has the plot where....?

From the blurb on the back cover:
He spent all day doing puzzles in the newspaper.... it wasn't a simple case of being a paranioac drop out. Ragel Gumm was the centre of the Universe....
It could be about you, I texted to my brother this morning, on finding that this was the book the title of which had alluded us on Sunday.

Just finished Stephen King's Carrie. First King novel I've ever read and I have to say I was quite pleased.

Reading now Deathly Hallows.

Next to bat? Don't know, but I'm guessing something horror related. That's all I'm in the mood for lately.

I wasn't sure what to expect but I ended up liking it. The book had more depth than I thought it would.

Just finished Rant by Chuck Palahniuk. I enjoyed it, better than his last few books.

Now to finally finish IT by Stephen King.

Finished this one:

Then read all of this one today:

Going on to this book now:

Pleasantly surprised by Candy Freak (it wasn't the book I originally thought it was going to be . . . but great despite it) and I loved Dead Sea. Had some issues with the character and Keene's often repeated use of certain words and ideas, but for a genre read I was left smiling at the book's end.

Worth reading if you are an Ellis fan, but if you aren't familiar with his work, it may be way too over-the-top for you. It had moments of maddening brilliance, where I was literally laughing out loud over certain lines & the first half I was really digging, but then his constant rants that have nothing to do with the story whatsoever get old real fast. The plot is paper thin, & Ellis tends to ramble a lot, the book as a whole kind of just felt like a carthardic release for Ellis to get all the perverse shit out of his head before he ended up going insane.

It's amazing how some books really feel like you've got to work through them and others just flow by.

Read and finished in like 4 days

Really awesome book.
I need to finish a few other books, but I really want to read ham on rye next.

Yeah, I like some of ellis's stuff. Transmetropolitian mostly. My friend owns it, so I'll give it a shot.

I'm reading Annals of the Former World by John McPhee. There's nothing like it for getting a little perspective on life.

I interrupted it for Harry Potter. Now I'm back.

Bukowski is the most readable author I can think of, and Ham on Rye would be in my top 10 novels of all time, if I were to make such a list.

I'm currently working on:

I saw the movie and was left feeling like I missed out on a ton of stuff and as it turns out, the movie does leave out a lot of important details.

And I'm going to be starting on a Jude Deveraux book, "The Raider". I'm having major surgery later this month and need something light and easy to read, plus she's one of my favorite authors.
