Sandworms of Dune

I just noticed that the latest sequel to Dune comes out in August: Sandworms of Dune. I've heard a bit of an uproar about these new books not actually being based on Herbert's notes the way the two new authors have claimed. Anyone have more information on that?

Also, anyone know if there will be signed copies of this new book the way they did Hunters of Dune?

Unfortunately I've lost interest in the series after the pre-prequels (The Butlerian Jihad).

Hope these are worth it to people.

The Dune series died with Frank Herbert IMO. The couple of later books I have read were just way over the top IMO. Sadly.

I read the first prequel and it was just abysmal. Too bad, because I badly wanted to like the new books, even if they're not Frank's. But his kid and that hack they've got helping him ... ugg. Shameful.

I have a difficult time believing that Frank Herbert, who only wrote six Dune novels during his lifetime, left any kind of extensive notes for eight more.

Well, he did have notes on the Jihad, but yeah, the prequels were most likely just the new authors' creations. But I'm wondering how much evidence there was that Herbert was planning one final Dune book (which these new two transformed into two novels).

Only what his son tells us....

Now Kevin and I knew for certain where Frank Herbert had been headed, and we could weave the events of our prequels into a future grand finale for the series.
....although one would expect that the papers/floppies will be deposited with a university library at some point and people can decide for themselves.

Very interesting, Benedict. I wonder how deep those notes and outline go. I'll have to keep my eye out for more info.
