Audio books for Travel?
My wife and I will be heading home this weekend (about 10 hrs), and instead of listening to the radio and CDs were going to try the audio book thing. We've listened to David Sedaris in the past, but all of his books on CD are checked out (damn public library). Any suggestions on short-stories, essays, or light "reading" for a long trip?
Thanks in advance.

Wife and I do this all the time. Matter of fact we'll be doing this next week when we drive about 600+ miles to see the granddaughters.
We usually try to pick something both of us will enjoy (which can sometimes be kind of difficult). Last trip we listened to the last 2 Artemis Fowl books and Vince Flynn's "Consent to Kill" (bit of a contrast between the two).
Unless your tastes are very similar, the hardest part will be selecting a title your both want to listen to, so it pays to start planning early before your trip so you can find something.

I've listened to a lot of audio books and a lot of them just put me to sleep so I generally try to find either really well read ones or things like audio interviews/stage plays/comedy albums.
For that I reccomend
This American Life
Curious incident of the dog in the night time
Bruce Campbell's audio books
The ricky gervais show
stand up comics
America the book, performed by the daily show

Sedaris' audio books are great. Too bad they are all checked out.
I'll second this one. It's even funnier than the print version, IMO.
I'd also recommend some of Henry Rollins' spoken word CDs. He's a great - and funny - storyteller. My brother's a huge Garrison Keillor fan, but he's not my cup of tea (GK, not my brother).
Lately, if I'm going on a road trip I'll download a whole bunch of podcasts. There's pretty much at least one for any interest (although quality varies drastically).

I could recommend a bunch. 2 of my favorites are: Lolita (narrated by Jeremy Irons) and A Tree Grows In Brooklyn (great narration, although not a famous actor). Both are wonderful and are good companions to the print versions. Also, both can be easily found unabridged, which is a must for me.

It will take you much longer than 10 hours, but I heartily recommend Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. If that's too much, I believe all of King's audiobooks are unabridged. I've also enjoyed "Desperation" and "Insomnia" on the road.
