The Histories by Herodotus

I have a paper to write on The Histories due tomorrow. The actual assignment is to read paragraphs 1-28 then write an essay in which you endeavor to explain the symbolic value of the story about the dolphin and what the appearance of a dolphin might mean for understanding history and experience. Be sure to explore your own life's experience. What dolphin (symbollically or meataphoically speaking) have you encountered?

Does anyone have a clue what the dolphin in Arion's story represented?
