I'll also go with The Long Walk (Stephen King)....for those interested, it's about competiton of sorts where men being walking in Main and continue walking until the last person is standing. It's fairly horrific.
I haven't read many short stories by authors other than Stephen King, so I'll also have to go with The Boogeyman as one of my favorites.
Really, almost every story in Stephen King's Night Shift is really really good. The last lines are such kickers....
I just read The Lottery from the link in this thread and I can see where it would be really shocking many years ago, but I was kind of meh on it.
