An editor generally needs to go over the book and work with the writer, though Rowling may no longer do that. There's also artwork, press and marketing to be coordinated from the publishing side.

Milo, in case you didn't see my response a few posts up, the reason that the book is completely finished now but is not being released until July is that the book company is purposely waiting for the school year to end before releasing it. Normally it wouldn't take 7 months from when a book is finished to when it is released.

Let's hope its at least somewhat better than "Order of the Phoenix."

After the build-up of "Goblet of Fire" - "Phoenix" was a massive let down.

I know this isn't the STL forum, but if anyone is placing a preorder on Amazon, could they send me some STL love at:

[email protected]

Thanks!

The Buy.com price is the same as Amazon with STL discount: $16.19.
Harry Potter 6 at Buy.com
A bit less hassle. Any better prices out there?

The more cynical among us would think they purposely wait for the school year to end because they will sell more books to parents wanting to keep their children occupied during summer vacation.

Well, I finally finished them all tonight...It took me a year to read books 1-3, and 2 weeks to read the last 2. Im totally hooked now, the only problem is now I have to wait until July. Oh well, I have my pre-orders in now so Im ready to go.

It wasn't even Book Talk's one-and-only STL thread....

.... that said, my understanding is that Amazon's STL has since ceased:

Plus they have to go in and dumb the language down for us Americans. You know, change all the colours to colors, theatres to theaters and philosophers to sorcerers.

From comingsoon.net ....

The most intriguing cover to me is the last one with the Advanced Potions spellbook. Perhaps I'm reading into this too much, but will there be extra conflict between Harry and Snape? Snape has stated that advanced potions is only for his top students (of which he definately doesn't see Harry), but Harry needs potions to become an auror, if he so desires.

This is ofcourse assuming Harry lives that long.

Well of course he'll live that long--otherwise no more books!

Here's the image since the other links are dead:

Since everyone is probably buying the Canadian version, here's that cover from Amazon.ca:

I pre-ordered mine at Amazon.UK. Got the adult version (the one at the bottom of silentbob's last post). Should go nicely with the adult set I bought last year.

I'm there with ya. Already scheduled to be at the local Border's at midnight for the release. Probably spend the next day reading it.

i haven't read any of these, but the build up for this is crazy....my border's has over 2,000 pre-orders for this with 2 weeks to go (for a town of 50,000)....they had 600 for the last one with 400 showing up for the midnight shindig. this is just crazy.

The last one was crazy too. My wife was working at Borders at the time, and I was there for the midnight release. It was pretty nuts. TONS of people there. It was a lot of fun.

I don't think I will do the midnight thing. Like last time, I will probably just pick up the book the next morning and start reading.

Can you imagine how crazy it will be when book 7 is released? For those who do not know, that is the last book in the Harry Potter series. There will probably be huge midnight parties. Booksellers will weep as they have their last huge HP boon.

I tried doing the midnight thing last time, but both Walmart and Barnes and Noble were absolutely swamped so I decided to head home, until I realized that Giant Eagle, our local supermarket chain also carries books. I walked in there at 11:50, walked out at 12:05 with the book. There were maybe 15 people tops waiting in the store for the book. No crowds and it was still 40% off.
