Theme of Oedipus the King

Okay so I know this isn't a book it's a play, but I have to write a paper on a specific scene in Oedipus the King for my drama class. If you are familiar with the play, the scene I mean is when the Messanger is speaking to Oedipus and Jocasta up until Jocasta eventually flees the palace. I'm trying to decide what is the central theme of this scene and what purpose it plays in the play. Obviously it is Jocasta's realization that Oedipus is her son and the prophecy has come true. It's also a turning point in the play because Oedipus will soon find out who is parents are from the shepherd that he has sent for. Can anyone shed any light on this scene for me?
