Pablo Escobar...
I'm curious if anyone knows of any books that deal with Pablo Escobars life. I want to read on his life from his younger days as a teen doing petty crimes to becoming one of the biggest...if not THE biggest druglords of all time.
I know Mark Bowden has a book 'Killing Pablo', but I believe that book is just about how the American/Colombian military brought Pablo down during a 16month period when he escaped from prison. I want a epic on his actual life...
I can't believe how hard it is for me to find great information on this man, websites always have a short and quick paragraph about him, but I want details...
thx in advance...

I listened to Killing Pablo on audio books every day for two weeks during my commute to and from work last year. I realized later that a CNN special that I had actually watched before listening to the novel was based on the book.
The book also delves into his earlier life, specifically the following:
The book also delves into his earlier life, specifically the following:
- relationship with his family, specifically his wife and two children
- his rise to power (which briefly touches upon his relationship with his mother IIRC)
- attempts at legitimacy and immunity from prosecution by obtaining a government post
- the high life he lived (mistresses, luxury automobiles, houses, etc.)
- his incarceration where he continued to live the good life...
- and his esape and the loyalty of his followers that prevented his capture until his actual death

It seems like it details all of above and also tells how the US gov't Special Forces were allowed by the President of the USA and Columbia to hunt down and kill Pablo. He was considered a National Security Risk. This brought me to think why the US gov't didn't kill Sadamm H.
I thought this was a very good DVD on Pablo Escobar.

DVD Talk Special Edition
I read Killing Pablo a while back, it did go into his past and rise to power rather well. Its a good read, and i actually just saw it yesterday on the bargain rack at B&N.

You might as well read Killing Pablo until you find a more definitive book, if possible. As others have said - it's an excellent book. Plus, it's a quick read.
