Rex Miller is dead
Now, I know there are a lot of you now wondering "just who in the hell is Rex Miller?"
Rex Miller was the author of Slob , Frenzy , Chaingang , and other novels.
His creation was the monstrous Daniel "Chaingang" Bunkowski,a a six foot seven, 469 pound serial killer. Chaingang first appeared in Miller's debut novel Slob . It got a helluva lot of good reviews. Chaingang was a pure killing machine, and he was damn good at it. Jack Eichord's the man trying to catch the killer. The killer who thinks of himself as Death itself. A killer who feasts on human hearts. When I first read it, I couldn't put it down. Brutal, unrelenting, and fast paced, Miller had the knack for grabbing you by the short and hairies and making you read every damn word. I always looked forward to reading reading one of his books when I heard of it's potential release.
Then, no other books came out. Later, I heard that he had suffered a stroke. But, nothing more.
Yesterday, reading another message board, I found out that he had died. On May 21st. He was 65.
At least I will remember him.
Any other Rex Miller fans out there?
RIP, Rex.

I read Slob, Frenzy & Chaingang. I remember having to track them down in a little mom & pop book store 'cause the chains weren't carrying them. Must've been mid to late 80's when Slob came out.

Rex Miller R.I.P.
Well that's a shame - I'm a big fan of 'Slob' (I think it was Twilight Zone magazine that had an extract from it - I'm talking '85-'86 now - making me track it down) and I enjoyed 'Frenzy' but then I stopped. But I was never under the impression that he would have been about 45 when he wrote them. Something about the visceral quality of them screamed younger...

Yeah, I was a bit surprised to find out Rex Miller was as old as he was. He was more or less a member of the splatterpunk revolution of the 1980s, which was generally dominated by younger guys like Skipp and Specter. (I don't recall where I first read about his age, but that he was only 65 was a bit surprising. I figured he was probably a bit older.)
I didn't know that he'd passed away, though. I at least try to keep with news in the horror field.
