I'm trying to decide whether I want to buy now or wait and see if it comes down to $50 on Amazon like the Far Side set did once.

$50 once? Was that a Friday sale or something? What are the odds of catching something like that.

I see it's now $85 with used copies starting at $79.80.

Yeah. As much as I'd like to get it now, I'm going to wait to see if it drops as well. I picked up the Far Side set for $54. Hopefully the C&H set will do likewise.

Buford, it was not a Friday sale when I picked it up. It went for $54 for a while. I'd just keep any eye on it, as I seem to remember it went on and off for that price.

I think the Calvin & Hobbes set has a higher MSRP than did the Far Side set, so I dunno how low it will actually drop.

I believe it's $15 higher to start.

It's actually closer to $20 or $25 higher, IIRC. Either way, I think +/- $85 is a great deal on this set...especially for someone who (shamefully) doesn't own more than a few of the individual collections.

I'm glad I didn't buy all of those individual collections. A lot more money and for what!?!?!?!

If it went for the same % discount, it'd be as low as $60.

I would be all over that.

*Edit* The above $60 is based on the current list prices of $135 for FS and $150 for C&H. If the list prices were different at some point, I wasn't aware of it.

I have this on order from Overstock. My question is...I have all of the original books (except the collections) separately and they are first editions. There have been so many printings of these...now with the ultimate collection...are they worth keeping. I guess they would not bring much. Any thoughts?

I would think the old books would be worth about a buck each. I've seen them in the cheapie area of Borders, etc. Don't know what edition but I don't think people really care about first edition of a soft cover cartoon book.

$86.99 on their site, hoping it'll be a bit cheaper at the store.

I'm keeping the 'Sunday Pages' and '10th Anniversary' Books because I doubt Watterson's comments, etc will be included in this new collection.

The other books i'll probably sell at 1/2 Price Books or give to friends that don't have them

I don't have the 10th Anniv. book but do have Sunday Pages and also planned on keeping that due to the comments.

Knowing 1/2 price books they'll give you 10 cents each for them.

Even though I really shouldn't have, I just placed my order with Overstock. $77.90 shipped.

Thanks movielib!

FedEx just dropped off this bad-boy at my house... and I'm here at work

I hope no one steal it off my porch - actually, I hope it didn't get all dinged up and damaged in shipping, what with it being so heavy.

Yeah, i'm fully expecting to get squat by reselling them.

So has anyone here seen their collection yet? Mine probably won't show up until tomorrow, but i'm tempted to hit Barnes and Noble tonight just to browse through it...

Did you order it from Overstock & if so, when? I still haven't gotten a shipping confirmation from them & I ordered it last week. I am not in a hurry but was just curious how long to expect from order to in-hand.

Thanks for mentioning the comments from Watterson. I don't have the Sunday Pages but I do have the 10th Anniversary book. I had forgotten about them & hadn't flipped thru it in a while. I would have hated to give that up for a buck.

Do the Sunday Pages have the same sort of commentary on individual strips like the 10th Anniversary does?

I might still get rid of all of my other books except for the very first release. it might be tough to give it up. I bought it as a young teenager the first week it came out and still remember the excitement of finally having a collection of the strips that I thought were the greatest ever written. I thought I was the only reader of Calvin & Hobbes and it always made a dismal teenage day better. Little did I know that there were tons of other teens at the time thinking probably the same way as me.

Sunday Pages is definitely set up similar to the 10th Anniversary book. What's better though, on the left page they have a scan of the original black and white drawing page, on the right is the colored version everyone saw in the paper. The pictures of the original page is fantastic because you can see the errand pencil marks, whiteout that was used, etc. It really is fascinating to look at. The commentaries on some of the strips are also a fun read. It makes you wish he did this for every strip...

hmmmmm.....yeah i'm tempted now to hold on to these old collections for sentimental reasons. Maybe at least the first book. I fondly remember on rainy days sitting down and reading through these books.

The only way that I'd resell my original collections is if this new collection reprinted everything from the originals. I doubt that it will have the original introductions (one by Schulz iirc) or the commentaries in the 2 collections mentioned above.
