A question for Robert Crais AND Michael Connelly fans

I'm in the middle of Crais's The Last Detective and there is a "scene" in the book where Elvis Cole runs into a former detective who lives up the street from him. The former detective lost his home in an earthquake and was a tunnel rat in Vietnam. He also was a former smoker. However, a name is not given.

I'm fairly certain, but do you guys think this is a nod to Connelly's Bosch?

Most definitely. I recall reading somewhere that Robert Crais even confirmed it. Michael Connelly returned the nod in one of his books; I think it might have been Lost Light. Connelly too confirmed it. I read that both authors agreed to the acknowledgements in advance.

I'm really looking forward to Connelly's newest - The Narrows - which is set to hit bookstores next Tuesday, May 3rd. Crais' latest Elvis Cole - The Forgotten Man - has gotten pushed back and won't street until early 2005.

Yep, Connelly & Crais are friendly and they exchanged cameos of each other's lead characters in their books. They couldn't be listed by name, though, due to copyright reasons.

The Narrows is a very good read with some real shocking plot twists!

I caught the Bosch reference in Last Detective, but apparently missed the Elvis one in Lost Light. I don't think I had read any Crais books at that point. What chapter was it in so I can go back and read through it? Thanks in advance to whoever helps me out!

I second that.

And thanks for the confirmation.

I can't wait for The Narrows. Hopefully I'll get one of the DVDs that come with some of the copies.

Connelly's nod to Elvis Cole in "Lost Light" is in Chapter 27, pages 220-221 of the U.S. hardcover version. Cole drives a yellow Corvette.

Fascinating!

I realise this thread is three years old, but I had never made this connection between my two favourite authors and wanted to thank you guys if you're still hanging out here!
Catching up on a new board is like going back in time! Only three or four Harry Potter books out and "The Narrows" imminent!
Wierd.
