Re: To Kill A Mockingbird
I just started to read To Kill a Mockingbird a little bit this summer a month and half ago but I got busy with reading Star Wars books and buying the Mistborn books.
Ill probably try again to get back into reading To Kill a Mockingbird later this year when I dont have a gazillion books to read |
Re: To Kill A Mockingbird
I find the book highly overrated. It is very unfocused and doesn’t get interesting until the trial starts. I think the trial portion is so good that people forgive (or maybe forget) that the first 100 pages or so add up to nothing.
Twice in this thread people have said A Time to Kill makes a good follow up, proving, I think, that many people see this as a courtroom drama and are omitting all the other stuff. Stuff which adds up to not much. Furthermore, the veneration of Atticus Finch is just bonkers. The sad truth is he’s a fictional white knight with no real world analog. In 1950’s Alabama there weren’t people like him. He’s a character made up for white southerners (all whites really) to feel better about themselves. |
