And on a completely different note, let me add: "Glimpses" by Lewis Shiner, a novel that reads like an alternate history of the "classic rock" era. Equal parts "Almost Famous" and "The Dead Zone." Very interesting stuff.

Ulysees by James Joyce
There's such an incredibly rich density in the prose that I can pick up the book and just read an episode or a few pages. It's the book that keeps on giving.

The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers. It's my favorite rollercoaster book.
The books I've read the most are the Lensman series by E.E. Doc Smith. I pull them out every time I get depressed . . . Simpleminded fantasy where good triumphs against all odds, and gets the literally best girl in the universe.
My gf says: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle.

i really, really liked House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski when i read it. i'd say it's my favorite book, if you can call a book you're favorite knowing full well that you'll probably never have the time or desire to fully read it again.
