Thomas Perry question
So, as some you regulars around here know, I have started my first Perry book - Pursuit and so far I am loving it. I'm a sucker for characters like Roy Prescott.
My question: Is Prescott in any other books? If so, which ones, and does Perry have any other series that you'd recommend?
Thanks
BTW, please don't give anything away about this book or others.

Prescott only appears in PURSUIT. (So far, anyway.)
Perry has two other series:
Jane Whitefield: An American Indian woman who helps people disappear. (Think of the movie "Eraser.") First book is VANISIHING ACT. It's a very good series with a strong female protagonist.
The Butcher's Boy: A mob hitman who turns against his bosses. Appears in THE BUTCHER'S BOY and SLEEPING DOGS. Both are excellent. I think they're similar in tone to PURSUIT, so you'd probably enjoy them.
Perry also has an excellent stand-alone novel, DEATH BENEFITS, about a pair of insurance fraud investigators.
I highly recommend everything he's written; Perry's top notch.

BoatDrinks - I just finished reading this novel the other night. You're in for a real treat!!!
I'm gonna take djmont's advice and read The Butcher's Boy for my next Perry novel (if not Dead Aim).

I read Nightlife and was disappointed. (It is getting some good pre-pub reviews, though, so other folks might like it more than I did.)
It starts off nicely, but doesn't really develop on that beginning. (The story quickly shifts away from the character I thought was the most fascinating.) On the whole, I found it to be interesting and well-written, but not as entertaining or suspenseful as one would hope.

I finished this last night and liked it quite a bit.
djmont - I know what you mean, I too thought it was going to go in one direction when it went in a complete different one I felt it was very well-written and entertaining, but slightly too long. I felt that it dragged a bit in the final 100 pages.
Having said that, it is better than his last outing (Dead Aim), but still not as strong as Pursuit.

Perry's newest novel released last month (came out under my radar).

Here's the buzz:
Anyone read it (djmont)
?

Here's the buzz:
"Thomas Perry is, quite simply, brilliant. And as each book comes out he becomes more so. Silence is a case in point. Don't miss it."
—Robert B. Parker
"Thomas Perry is one hell of a writer. Silence is an ingeniously plotted and tightly written novel of taut psychological suspense. This is catnip for true fans of the mystery/suspense genre."
—Nelson DeMille
"Silence is ingenious, a runaway train-paced thriller from the devilish Thomas Perry"
—George Pelecanos

I did read Silence. It's good. I wasn't blown away by it as I have been by some of Perry's other work, but it's definitely worth reading.
I keep waiting for Perry to uncork another real blockbuster, but he hasn't done it yet. His last few have just been okay.

Perry fans: Jane Whitefield will finally make her return in January '09:
After her long vacation, Jane Whitefield will be making a return in a new book called Runner, scheduled for January, 2009. I'm talking about this here and now because the visitors to this web site are partly responsible. In the years since I decided to give Jane Whitefield a rest, about half of the email I've received from readers has included the question, "Will there ever be another Jane Whitefield book?"
I always responded that I did intend to write another one at some point, but didn't know when. I had intentionally left Jane alive and well in Amherst, New York, living with her surgeon husband as Mrs. Jane McKinnon. She's been nearly indistinguishable from many of the women around her. She's perhaps a bit more watchful than some of her neighbors, and the survival kit she keeps in case of disasters isn't just bottled water and batteries, but those differences have been subtle and unnoticed. But trouble never leaves anyone alone forever, and Jane's time of rest is up. During Jane's absence, a whole new industry with new methods and technology has grown up to prevent people from moving around the country under false identities. Now, in spite of the fact that she's acutely aware of the danger, there's no way Jane can avoid coming back to transform one more victim into a runner.
I've always been aware that the loyal readers who have given me a writing career deserved to have their wishes considered. But I was also aware that I owed it to them to wait until I had a story that was significant enough to make it worth a reader's time. I think Runner is the story I was waiting for.

Re: Thomas Perry question
FYI, Thomas Perry has a new novel is out (stand-alone). I've heard nothing but great reviews (both online and from a couple reputable local bookstores I frequent). I think there are a few Perry fans here (and for those not familiar with his work, you may want to check him out). This one is next on my 'to-read' pile.
