The DUNE Universe and Earth
I'm almost finished with "HERETICS OF DUNE" and I will start "CHAPTERHOUSE" in the next few weeks so the answer may have popped up already so forgive me...
Here's the question.
What happened to Earth? I know DUNE takes place some 8 or 9 thousand years into the future and I think I've seen it referred to as "Old Terra" in the DUNE books. But as far as I've read, no mention of where it is in relation to the DUNE UNIVERSE, what happened to it, or if it's still living come up.
I also know it is said the Atreides trace back to Greece on Earth.
What happened?

If you want to know what happened to Earth and the Atriedes and Harkonnen origins you'll have to read the new prequel: The Butlerian Jihad.

It depends on what's considered "cannon".
Alot of the stuff in the timeline involving Holzman is happening thousands of years before in The Butlerian Jihad.
