Any suggestions for books about pirates?

Can I just put a dissenting opinion towards Under the Black Flag. I thought it was actually a little dull, and it felt like I was reading a textbook that consisted of listed facts rather than any fascinating read. It's probably the first book in my life I ever could not bring myself to finish, and ended up returning it with 40 pages left to the library. I just got annoyed when he started listing the types of ships the pirates used. This one used a 60 ton sloop. That one used a 200 ton ship. It just disappointed me so much after reading all these recommendations here.

If you're in the mood for comedy pirates, I highly recommend both of Gideon Defoe's very funny (if you're into Monty Python type humor) books. Quick, entertaining reads.
"The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists"

"The Pirates! In an Adventure with Ahab"
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...e=UTF8&s=books
(The original UK title of this is "The Pirates! In an Adventure with Whaling")
The third book, "The Pirates! In an Adventure with Communists" is slated for release in September in the UK, and October in the US.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Rafael Sabatini's Captain Blood. A bit old-fashioned, but the book is a lot of fun, as is the Errol Flynn movie made from it. Also, if you read the Watchmen graphic novel, there is a pretty good pirate-themed story included.
There need to be more new pirate novels, however. I'm suprised the success of The Pirates of the Caribbean series hasn't inspired a pirate novel revival.

Of course, for fiction you want to look at the classics like Treasure Island, Captain Blood, etc. For a non-fiction account of the beginning of modern piracy to its end, check out
