You can only get it used, but in addition to some of those mentioned already, I liked The City Not Long After by Pat Murphy.
Generally I'm a sucker for any post-acopalyptic books or movies...my wife thinks it makes me morbid.

I haven't seen this already listed, and I don't know if it exactly qualifies as "end of the world" but Nightfall by Isaac Asimov is just an amazing book that's kind of on topic. Definitely check it out!

While not the focus in the first few books, The Dark Tower series by Stephen King focuses in on the end of the world in the more recent, final 3 books.

any book that makes you laugh out loud is worth a read.

I apologize if this has already been mentioned as I admittedly haven't been through the entire thread. No doubt that it has, but I'll just reiterate how great this book is: Good Omens but Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett.

I've written a screenplay called the "First War" and it deals with the end of the world and I am also starting a book with that very same theme. That screen play took me forever to write and flesh out. Still not quite how I want it but at least its done.

I'm currently looking for some post-apocalypse books. Has anyone read The Rift by Walter J. Williams? I just ordered it from Amazon in the buy 3, get 1 free deal. I'm wondering if it will be any good. If anyone knows of any books that are very similar to Cell by Stephen King,The Postman or 1984, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Oh wow, just noticed how long ago this thread was originally made. 
In case the poster (or anyone else) is still after reading material, I'll toss Jose Saramago's Blindness into the ring. It's closer to the "micro-society" idea than apocalyptic, though there could be tinges of the end of the world scenario depending on how you approach things. It's also one of, if not my very favorite book.

I don't think anyone mentioned this one yet, but I really liked "Just a Couple of Days" by Tony Vigorito. It is a very humurous and creative look at the end of the world. If you like Vonnegut you will like this one. Check it out here:

Okay I read "Lucifer's Hammer" and loved it, although I wish it was longer. I started "On the Beach" and hated it, I could just not get into it. I also poured through "I Am Legend" and enjoyed it, although I did not know it was only a short story. I am really wanting to read some more post-apokyleeptik micro-society stories. I am getting the "Postman", "Alas, Babylon" and "Warday".
