Opinions on Pillar of Creations

The only fantasy book released recently which interested me. I should be getting (I hope) my copy tommorow so haven't read it. Those who did, what did you think? (use [spoiler])

I should have my opinion up within a week or so, just the time to complete my final assignements for school. I re-read Faith of the Fallen. Some things annoyed me this time around (like they repeat stuff from earlier books over and over... if your up to 6, youve read the first 5 so less repeating), but it was still a good story and unlike Jordan, it's not dragging on and on, he always has something going.

For those who don't know, it's the 7th book in Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth serie...

Well... as no one seems to have read the book (what happened to P1forest and Yrth??), I will give my own impression.

I've not read all of it but I'm over halfway through it at page 332 and I have to say I'm both impressed and disappointed at the same time. The story takes a real turn and I am very curious to see how the rest of the book will evolve.

Here are my thoughts :
Spoiler:
I really like how he adds Jensenn to the story really out of the blue, she is a rather interesting character although I don't like how she is being used by the order constantky. She also doesn't seem too too bright as everyone is always praising Richard and ragging after Darkhen and she still can't put 2 and 2 together. I am really looking forward to seeing how it will end up. I don't think she will be evil though since Oba has got that position reserved. That guy is just nasty and I pretty much hate him but he does have an evil role after all (which is why I think Jensenn ends up being good). The part that really surprises me is that I'm at page 332 and there has yet to be anything concerning any of the other characters! I mean the only regular you see until that part is Nathan who shouts a few things and it ends there. I really hope they get back to Richard and the fall of Altur'Ang or it will be a pretty crappy book as I want to know how that goes on. I'm just hoping he doesn't end up pulling a Jordan and leaving out everyone for a an entire book relating to a side story... seems like 200 pages isn't very much to talk about the order, about Richard and the war in general. I was hoping to see a book where you would have Richard taking over the Old World apart from the inside. Another thing I didn't like relating to the girl not putting 2 and 2 together is that it seems that everyone just so happens to mention a bit of the truth, but they conveniently never say anything more. Take Lathea (the witch in the swamp), I mean you would have expected her to tell her about how Richard was a great leader, her companion the gilder surely saw the good when in town, but it's never mentionned so they leave the poor girl in complete ignorance........

Anways, I'll have it finished on Sunday or so and will post more then with my thoughts on the completed book.

Sorry, I was on a business trip this week (got back last night), and I'll be turning around and leaving again for another one Monday night. Although I've had this book on reserve at my library for a few months, it hasn't come it yet, so I haven't been able to read it; I don't want to go out and buy the hard cover. Hopefully I'll get it soon, and compare my thoughts to yours (which I haven't read yet, to not spoil anything ).

Good to see someone has interest in the book... I guess I'll post my final thoughts here before I forget them.

Spoiler:
Not enough of the usual gang, they appear for what, the last 50 pages? Plus, the ending was predictable, the girl couldn't be stupid forever, it was a gimmie that at the end, she would not kill Richard and Oba would be killed. Also, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting very tired of seeing Richard and Khalan being split up in every book, I mean jeeze, can't we see a book where they are always together. This time it was only short, but it seems like one or the other is ALWAYS being kidnapped for whatever reason. The book was all in all not too bad, but it wasn't as good as the others. I mean Zedd and Addi killed a few hundred thousand people just by themselves, probably even a couple of millions and wounded the leader of the enemy army. So why not just have them kill them all off while the new world's army sits around and gets fat since they aren't needed anyways. Not bad, but not good either, hopefully it will be better in the next book and it will relate to the story once again.

Feneant, it took a while, but I finally got the book and read it.
Spoiler:
I completely agree with all the things you said. She's an interesting character, but a little blind and clueless, and the ending was predictable.

Like you, I'm disappointed that the main characters hardly show up at all. I actually knew a little about this, because I had read an interview with Goodkind, where he stated that his current plan is to have all future books in this series to somewhat feature new characters, and not have the stories mainly about Richarad and Kahlan. I'm not sure if that's a mistake or not. But I didn't expect there to be so little about the main characters, even after reading that.
