Wild Blue by Steven Ambrose?

Is it any good? I enjoyed band of brothers on TV, but know nothing else about him. I generally only read nonfiction

I haven't read this one. FWIW, I have read D-Day and Citizen Soldiers(both written by Ambrose). Both were very good.

I'm fairly certain that The Wild Blue is non-fiction. Most of what Ambrose writes is.

It has gotten surprisingly poor reviews, however, from the reader comments over on Amazon.com.

Everything that I've read of his has been excellent (Eisenhower, Nothing Like it in the World, Undaunted Courage...). So I'm going to read this one despite what people are saying about it. I've skimmed through it and there is quite a bit on George McGovern, which I'm not particularly interested in, but nevertheless everything Ambrose writes is enjoyable and informative IMO.

Book seemed kind of thrown together, not the best read in the world. Seems like it was put out too quickly and could have used more research. Big type used to fill the small number of pages.

and now this...

Thinking maybe Ambrose half-assed this one or wasn't really involved in it.

Ambrose has been accused of plagiarism for this book:

It isn't as good as D-Day and Citizen Soldiers, which are must-reads. They are giant events told through individual stories of participants, glued together by conventional history. Band of Brothers is on a much smaller scale - a single company, and Wild Blue is still smaller - it focuses on George McGovern and his bomber crew.
