Thanks, let the moderators do their job.

I posted this thread here because I was curious to what the Otters had to say.

After a few Otter posts, I'm sure it will get moved.

From: Grounded in reality. For the most part.
Out of Sight was pretty good. It followed the movie fairly well (if I remember correctly). I know the movie did a few minor character changes.

Killshot was pretty decent.

Get Shorty was ok, not one of his better books.

I've read a bunch of Elmore Leonard books, but the title's escape me right now.

I would recomend Out of Sight first because that is the first one I read and it made me a Leonard fan.

One thing I like about his novels are is characters are so damn cool.

I've read quite a few Leonard books and it is difficult to choose a favorite because most of them are very good.
City Primeval is easily one of his best and The Hunted was a great read as well. If you want to get a taste for his style that would be a great title to start with but I don't think that any one of his books would make for a better first read than any other. Just choose one and enjoy. You will either be hooked (like I am) or you may not care for his style.

Some other excellent Elmore Leonard books:

Rum Punch
Pagan Babies
Pronto
Glitz
Riding the Rap
The Big Bounce

Though I love the film Get Shorty I feel that the book and its sequel Be Cool are good but not up to par for a great author like Leonard.

Since you wanted originally wanted otters to chime in, let me add that I love Elmore Leonard. I've read the following and rank them this way:

1) Rum Punch
2) Freaky Deaky
3) Out of Sight
4) KillShot
5) Touch
6) Get Shorty
