Clive Barker....."IMAJICA"
I tried to read this book years ago and I couldn't get through the first several chapters. Well I started reading it again and so far it's pretty interesting.
Has anyone else read this book? Is it worth the many pages and small print?
thanks

Weaveworld was awesome! But like Imajica apparently, you need to read about 100 - 150 pages before it really starts getting interesting. Once you get past the lagging beginning though it's really one of the more fantastic books that I've read.

Just popped in to say that Barker remains on my "should read" list because I have heard good things over the years and....

</small>.... my personal observation is that sometimes people feel better if their thread gets a slightly off-topic answer rather than none at all and that sometimes it doesn't matter how on-topic you are; the thread just dies!

"Imagica" is absolutely brilliant. A metaphysical, baroque pagan fantasy. And Barker at the absolute top of his game to boot.
I've often recommended this book to anyone who has yet to sample Barker's work.
Also, one of the few giant novels in recent memory whose length is justified.

I've read a few of Clive Barker's books-- Imajica, Weaveworld, The Great and Secret Show, Everville. They're all more or less the same. Not that I don't like them, but they are.

I'm trying to push through the first 100 or so pages and so far it's interesting but some of it is kind of tough to get through.

I rather liked Imagica. It's probably one of his better fantasy type books, imho.
It seems to me that Barker when through a bit of a change in writing style about
the time he wrote Weaveworld. Before that he was more into plain horror
and gore. Of those books, i really have a soft spot for The Damnation Game.
Overall, i can't say if i prefer his earlier writing to his later. They both have their merits.

My favorites are Weaveworld, then Imagica, then Great & Secret Show and Everville (I do wish he'd finish that trilogy...) I think Imagica's a really fun read...
I haven't been too thrilled about Barker since Everville... I found Testament and Galilee both a bit disappointing... Especially Galilee, which is like the prolog to a major battle that never happens...
Still I'll probably get his newest, anyway. Coldheart Canyon, just out this month...

Hey adamblast! I'm glad you chimed in on Barker.
I just read a review of COLDHEART CANYON and they said the lead character seems a lot like TOM CRUISE . The lead is a big Hollywood star.
The reviewer also said Clive gets REALLY kinky with this book. But it seems the writing style is back to his roots.
Who knows...
Maybe I'll check COLDHEART CANYON myself.
