The Talisman

I just finished re-reading The Talisman, and it was just as good as I'd remembered it. I originally read it years ago when it first hit paperback, and I reread it of course because of The Black House. It's surprising how much you can forget about a book in that amount of time. I remembered Wolf, for instance, but completely forgot about Richard. Funny how different characters make their impact.

Time to spoilerize so as not to ruin anyones fun.

Spoiler:

The though that kept occurring to me was why didn't he just buy a ticket on Amtrak or Greyhound? Speedy told him not to take a plane; but I don't remember anything about trains or buses. Since he hitched rides, I assume they'd be OK. Although, then what kind of story would that have been? :)

The book seemed in a lot of ways to be a tribute to Lord of the Rings. They refer to it a few times in the storyline, but the layout of the book itself is a near match. The way they name chapters, etc.. I think I picked that up this time because I'd just finished LOTR last month.

I was sad when Wolf died, I'd forgotten about that. :( But one thing that's always stuck with me since I originally read it was the pee on the popcorn. I've never had fake butter on my popcorn since!

I'm looking forward to The Black House. The paperback I've got is the new one that includes the first chapter. From reading that I'm guessing
Spoiler:
The Thunder Five aren't what they seem and the Fisherman is the new antagonist
