Sci-Fi (Books by William Barton)
Anyone else read any William Barton stuff? I've only read one of his books "When Heaven Fell" and I'm still not sure I liked it. But it was different and well written. Ordinarily, I don't exactly like books where the main characters go through a lot of introspection. But I gotta admit that I wanted to know how it would end, although I sometimes wondered if the first half was going anywhere. This is the basic plotline:
Earth has been conquered by a cybernetic race. Humans are allowed to be mercenaries for them and we go around crushing rebellions by other races and conquering new ones for the "Master Race" (btw, there are other mercenary races besides humans). Of course, the hero doesn't like humanity's slave status but thinks resistance is useless. Oh, and there was too much obsession with sex. I think there was a point to all these scenes (but it was beyond me other than to keep emphasizing that we have urges/needs, etc.).
Would I recommend it? I'd have to say "yes" but have to say "be prepared for something different" if you are used to the usual sci-fi stuff (whatever that may be
)
