It's about a guy with a 68 IQ who undergoes some experimental brain treatments to become smarter. The smarter he gets, the more he sees what's been happening to him all his life and how the people around him he thought were his friends really weren't, etc... then he gets to the point of surpassing the intelligence of the doctors doing the experiments, and becomes a super genius. There's more to it, and the ending is sad, so I won't ruin it.

The story is written like the guy's diary, so you get all his thoughts and experiences.

It was an oscar winning movie called Charly from 1968, as well as a broadway play from 1980. There was a 2000 TV remake of the movie last year starring Mathew Modine as Charlie, but I have no idea what network it was on.

Amazing what you can find out from Amazon and the IMDB, eh?

I had to read this in Jr. High, and I remember thinking it was pretty OK.

Since renoldow already gave you a synopsis, all I'm going to say is that you should read this book!! For me, it wasn't the best book I ever read but I do think it's definitely worth the read.

Definitely worth reading.

Thought provoking... not the best book ever written, but worth the time!
