Have any of you read this book by Jeffrey Eugenides? Sofia Coppola did a film adaptaion of it that was pretty good, but the book is so much better. Eugenides uses language in such a way that evokes an enigmatic, wistful feeling in the reader. I thought it was a wonderful example of the contemporary novel; are there any other thoughts on it?

I read the first few chapters. It was pretty good, but the person who lent me the book got impatient and took it back.

Well then you should forcibly pry it out of the person's hands who took it from you and read it. It's a great book for novice readers.

I dunno. It didn't have enough pictures, and it mentioned "otter insulation." That kinda scared me.

You haven't read that part if you have only read the first few pages. That's toward the middle of the book. Dear.

But I did read it. It was weird... the book just automatically opened to that page, like in Army of Darkness.

Not familiar with that. Looks like you're going to have to find other ways to relate to me.

Okay. I'll stick to Barbie and My Little Pony references.

I just read it. I thought it was a great book and I kept on thinking that the girls were so happy and that they weren't going to kill themselves, even though I already knew they would. It was just a really haunting novel.
