Hi folks,

I just thought I'd mention there's at least one more person who reads these books. In all honesty, until now, I never noticed that DVDTalk had a forum to discuss books - not something I really thought of.

I'm happy to see there's a new book coming out - now, it's just the usual tourture of waiting until the paperback is released.

You can read the first three chapters now.... but I'm not sure if that makes it more or less agonizing.

I'm not sure either, but I went ahead & read them anyway. Oh well - maybe it's time to dig the rest of the series out & re-read them in the meantime.

Woah! Baen Books has loaded two more chapters for free reading at their website. That makes FIVE of the Eighteen total book chapters available for free so far.

The record for partial chapters was 24 chapters of 50 (?) for one of the Honor Harrington books. The record is still held by one of the other Dave Weber books (i forgot the title) that had ALL of its chapters on the website for free reading, even though it was available for sale at the B&M bookstores.

Baen Books is by far the most generous of the book publishers in giving you advance chapters to read for free.

Anyone know if "Miles Errant" (out in September 2002) is a new or reprint book?

I suspect reprint, since the titles using the word Miles in a pun seem to be reprints.

Well, I picked up Vorkosigan's Game and A Civil Campaign at the last book sale. Now I will just need to order the rest from my library.

One question about the chronological order, is The Vor Game the same as Vorkosigan's Game?

Ahh... Vorkosigan's Game is an omnibus, with The Vor Game and Borders of Infinity. I had to get off my mule to go check.

Well, there are many more, but if you want to "get started", then pick up "The Warrior's Apprentice", read that, then read "The Vor Game"...

that'll get you going.

Does anyone know if "Diplomatic Immunity" is out already?

I have it on order at Amazon, and they and Baen say "May 2002"... but I see at Barnes & Noble.com, it says "SHIPS IN 24 HOURS"!!!!

Anyone know?

It seems to be in a box in the back room at my local B&N. They've made space for it already on the shelf, but haven't put it out yet. You can always hope that the publisher had forgotten to put a date on the box or if the restocking people missed looking at the date. I picked up Angry Lead Skies by Glen Cook almost two week early because of that at Borders. B&N put it out on the shelf at the right time though.

So have you managed to snag a copy?

If I order it from B&N.com - you think they'd ship it "within 24 hours"?

I just ordered it from bn.com --- we'll see if it indeed ships in 24 hours.

Great! I will swing by the B&N and Borders on the way home to see if the books were out on the shelf early. In the past, I've seen Dave Weber's Ashes of Victory, Glen Cook's Angry Lead Skies, and one other whose name I cannot remember. But never any Bujold. Perhaps this will be a first!

ASIDE:
I wish that Daniel Hood was writing more of his Fanuilh series. It seems that I like and buy many of Baen published books as compared to ACE or TOR or ROC or Penguin books. Perhaps he might migrate over to Baen for their promotion and superior editing help.

It has not gone on the bookstore shelves yet. I might not buy it this time around as I just recently put in another order for R2 DVD discs from Japan and there is only so much money in my media budget.

Some of Bujold's book have "re-readable" value for me such as Cetaganda or Memory. I suspect that Diplomatic Immunity might not be as re-readable???

Spoiler request: Does haut Rian Degtiar or ghem-General Benin make an appearance in the later chapters of Diplomatic Immunity?

Thanx for the info. Now, I wonder if there is going to be a subplot later on or if it will be left as one of the permanently loose ends.... Those two were together at the Barrayar emperor's wedding during A Civil Campaign. And now they are still gallivanting around in haut style in Diplomatic Immunity.

Hmmm - sounds like you probably want to read this book just to be "completely up to date" on the goings on....

Of course, you only get hints about the wedding, which will be published separately.
