I think travelogue is the right word. You know, where the author tells all about their travels and adventures.

I've only read 2 and liked them really well. I rank them:

Michael Crichton's Travels
Robert A. Heinlein's Tramp Royal

Anybody read these or others?

Don't know if this qualifies as a travelogue, but Travelers' Tales San Francisco is an excellent read. It is a collection of short stories by different writers, sharing their--often humorous--accounts of SF experiences.

Michael Palin's travel books Around the World in 80 days, Pole to Pole, Full Circle, and Hemmingway Adventure are excellent and highly recommended. I also have enjoyed some of Bill Bryson's books including a Walk in the Woods and Lost Continent.

Note if you like audiobooks Palin and Bryson read their own books. Palin does an excellent job and makes for a very entertaining experience.

Off the Rails in Phnom Penh: Into the Dark Heart of Guns, Girls, and Ganja by Amit Gilboa. It's more of a gonzo travel narrative.

I love travel writing. Anthologies are often your best bet with this genre. Two of my faves are: Bad Trips, edited by Keath Fraser (dozens of famous authors--John Updike, David Mamet, Paul Therox, etc.--write about their worst trips) and The Best of Granta Travel (the best travel writing from the literary magazine Granta).

I finally got around to following one of the suggestions and picked up this book yesterday. Finished it this morning and it was pretty good. Cambodia must be one really wild place.

I can't remember specific titles, but I used to love Paul Thoreaux's (Mosquito Coast author) travelogues.

This thread is old. I was going to post until I saw that some brilliant person had already said exactly what I wanted to say...then I realized it was me 2 months ago.
