My favorites in Junior High were:

Johnny Tremain and
The Count of Monte Cristo

In High School:

To Kill A Mockingbird

In college:

Carrie (Yes, the Stephen King book. My English Comp II class was all horror books and short stories)

Some required reads I hated:

Jane Eyre and
The Scarlett Letter

We had to read several of those mentioned above, the one that sticks out in memory not listed above is Anna Karenina by Tolstoy.

Shakespear blows to read it, but seeing a well made movie of it is cool, after all they weren't written to be read
Movie? What ever happened to watching the play... they weren't written to be screenplays either

Let's see Books I read from 10th to 12th grade (anything before that was pretty terrible choices anyhow):

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Beowulf
Excerpts from The Canterbury Tales
MacBeth
Julius Caesar
The Great Gatsby
The Catcher in the Rye
Huckleberry Finn
Excerpts from "Moby Dick"
The Sea Wolf (read on my own for a book analysis)
No Exit
The Plague
Native Son
The Death of Ivan Illyich
Othello
Madame Bovary
We also watched a few film versions of various works "12th Night", "Romeo and Juliet", "Man of La Mancha", "Tess of the D'urbervilles", "King Lear"

Probably some other works but I can't remember right now. Of all these my favorites would surely be Fellowship of the Ring, Macbeth, No Exit, The Sea Wolf, and The Death of Ivan Illyich

I can't really recall any of the titles that were assigned reading, but quite a few of them I had already read before they were assigned. I do remember being able to pick books for quite a few book reports, though

Same as most of the above, the only notable exception was "Anthem", by Ayn Rand, in 12th grade.

I had to read two of the worst books ever written. The Return of the Native and Silas Marner.

Also read Farenheit 451 and the Great Gatsby. 451 was okay, and at least Gatsby was short.

Read Dante's Inferno on my own, as well as LOTR and a lot of sci-fi.
