I wish it were a little later in October.

And here I thought I’d have to wait till next month for Arsenic and Old Lace!

Regarding Arsenic & Old Lace: <cranky mode on> I'd be happy to wait another month (or several) if it meant some meaningful extras were included, or if it had been a 4K/Blu-Ray combo. It boggles my mind that such an important comedy has been treated so poorly when it comes to physical media. It definitely feels like it should have been a $29.99 retail - similar stuff like I Married a Witch & The Uninvited seemed 'stacked' compared to this release. <cranky mode off>

Not that they even do $29.99 titles anymore, but Arsenic and Old Lace has a commentary, which has always meant an automatic bump up to the higher price point.

Picked up:
Take Out
Exotica
Arsenic and Old Lace
Lost Highway

Exotica and When Horror Came to Shochiku for me. I ordered Lost Highway from Amazon using a $12 promo so that was cheaper than ordering from CC.

Caught up on my wants . . . added Exotica, Lost Highway, and Sound of Metal.

Picked up 7 titles to get caught up on the recent 4K releases. Luckily I remembered that Criterion sent me a $10 coupon to use for this sale for subscribing to their streaming channel.

It's interesting because the cart treats it like a $75 minimum with its "spend $XX more to qualify for free shipping!", but at the end of checkout, sure enough, it's $50.

Re: Criterion Flash Sale - 10/11/22

My buying has slowed down a lot in the last couple of years so I haven't bought anything in a Criterion sale in awhile, but I had $25 in credits/codes so I ended up picking up a few things:
Once Upon a Time in China: The Complete Films
Speedy
The Freshman

They officially changed to $75 several months ago (noted in the Order FAQ), but for some reason (glitch or intentional) the FS limit for the FLASH Sale for Movies is somewhere around $48-49.
2 regular titles don't qualitfy, but 2 4K titles or one of the 99.95 MSRP boxsets. It's been working that way all day so either Crtierion did it on purpose or isn't in too much of a hurry to fix it.

Been out of work since end of July. I start a new job next week, but I'm gonna have to sit this one out, fellas. Sucks too, 'cuz with recent releases I now have three definite "wants", enough to get the free shipping. Usually I just have two, so I take a title from my "ah, someday I'll get that" list just to bump it over $50.

I went with:
Night of the LIving Dead / 4K
Arsenic and Old Lace
Lost Highway / 4K

Was going to get a Fassbinder I didn't have; but $8 shipping (+ tax for a 2 disc set??? I bought it used on ebay for $23 shipped.

Re: Criterion Flash Sale - 10/11/22

^ It's not a good sale if you only buy one disc. You really have to push it to the free shipping level in order to see any savings.

I was going to order some titles after I worked out this morning and I was an hour late. The sale had already ended... I guess I'll just wait for the next one.

Re: Criterion Flash Sale - 10/11/22

You can stack those $10 coupons that the CC channel sends out to members periodically. I already had one in there and then CC channel sent one last week and I was able to add that to the order, so got $20 off on top of the sale price and free shipping. I was just charged sales tax.

Snagged Lost Highway 4K, Blow Out 4K, and Exotica BD.

Yeah, I'm a charter subscriber and I somehow managed to accumulate 3 of those (I must have forgotten to use 1 or 2 on my last order). They don't expire and I was able to stack all 3.

I picked up blus of Brazil, Blue Velvet, and the David Lean Directs Noel Coward box (Brief Encounter, In Which We Serve, This Happy Breed, and Blithe Spirit). After tax and minus the $30 in coupons it came to $72.50.

This means I'm finally getting around to upgrading my old 3-disc Criterion non-anamorphic DVD box set of Brazil! I bought it in 1999 from Reel.com (that's a blast from the past -- I gave them a lot of my money back then) for $27.94. So roughly the same as the price in this sale of $24.97 (not accounting for inflation!).
