I have in the past. Quality varies. If it's a major label reissue, the quality is usually pretty similar. The German Restored classics are usally an upgrade.

re: Hamilton Book (Blu-ray Bargains)

Like always, thank you so much for posting.

Unfortunately whatever the cause (Covid, wholesale increase,.........) The prices are too high for me. There was one Kino item of some interest, but they are often cheaper on ebay. I'm mostly looking for art house & classics I don't yet own (or upgrades) at below market value. If covid ever goes away I'll go back to haunting the pawn shops. Last time I checked, all blu-rays were $2.50 ea at the largest local chain. That was in 2019.

This likely means there is a huge backlog of product in a warehouse somewhere down south, but if I can't get to it....doesn't count for much!

Check Ebay, it's lower priced.

Becoming a waste of time at this point. The only cheap stuff is the common stuff that one can find elsewhere. The niche stuff can be found on the own label's website for cheaper if one waits.

Re: Hamilton Book (Blu-ray Bargains)

Those seem like some good prices on the Universal Horror collections, but as mentioned, it's not exactly bargain basement pricing. I've only got the first two of those sets, so I might spring on a couple. Maybe.

Good prices on the Scream Factory stuff, but they were always lower previously. They must not be getting anymore deals

I have to go make deals/orders where they can be had. This year, there's just a LOT less to be had! Again, I think something has to give at some point, but...impossible to say when.

I wonder if the pandemic simultaneously cut production while increasing demand. Like, less content coming out, maybe even smaller disc orders, while people have the money saved from not going to theaters to buy discs.

Are some of these titles basically boutique, smaller titles and so the process is more expensive? I mean, I appreciate that The Gate Part II is on Blu-ray, and I'd like to see it again, but not for $18.

Yes, the stuff $16 and up is mostly boutique stuff that they're getting as new stock, instead of discounted clearance stuff. Gate 2 is Shout/Scream factory. They also get titles from Arrow Films, Blue Underground, and Vinegar Syndrome

One thing GoldenWheels has mentioned at the other forum is that they stock those titles largely because there's a good portion of their customer base that uses them as the source for those titles, and will buy them at non-clearance pricing. So those higher-priced discs aren't necessarily for the same customers that buy the highly discounted discs.

Re: Hamilton Book (Blu-ray Bargains)

They're definitely a worthy source for those closer-to-full-price genre titles, especially if you're ordering other things along with them. Because they're a little more under the radar, titles that have long since sold out everywhere else are still available (like the Daimajin limited edition), and their prices for titles like Two Evil Eyes (UHD) are at least a couple bucks lower than anything I can find without a coupon. They have the new Vengeance Trails collection for $59.95, and it's $71.43 at Deep Discount, $71.49 at Amazon, $71.97 at BullMoose, $64.99 at Zavvi, etc.

Even without the pandemic raging, physical media was on a downward trend, so studios/publishers probably not printing up as many DVDs and blu-rays as they did in the past.

I think the embarrassment of riches we saw at Big Lots ten-fifteen years ago was the beginning of a glut, when the major studios were dumping excess inventory to liquidation outlets. By now they've learned to be more conservative with their print runs.

Not to mention that most of the stuff that makes it to stores is now is stuff like the MCU movies, Star Wars, and other big ticket franchises, and the major studios probably don't want to dump the excess inventory in these places and devalue it.

They might be getting a different deal from the distributor but it is a bit irksome to see the titles that Dollar Tree is getting on HB for 6x the price....

I have 3 items in my cart that have been there for months. I really want 1 of the three. Keep hoping they get a few more bargains so an order feels worthwhile.

Re: Hamilton Book (Blu-ray Bargains)

Just got this in an update for a Kickstarter I backed:
the world meanwhile continues to be stumbling and our little project is probably not going to avoid being affected by current events. unfortunately, COVID-19 has slowed many supply lines to a crawl.... it looks as though the blu-ray factory (the people that will mass-produce it) has been going through similar issues. even though we're nearly finished, we could be parked on the side of the road here for a while longer, just waiting for the assembly lines to catch up. things are movin slow.
So the supply chain has shrunk, or at least slowed down, which could mean less excess inventory to clearance off.

Seems so odd that physical media is said to be a dying format, but the labels keep thinking that they can raise prices. Self-fulfilling prophecy??

It makes sense. You have a smaller yet devoted audience that’s willing to pay more, lowering prices wouldn’t really bring back anyone who’s moved onto streaming/VOD, labels are more cautious about overprinting (so they’re less likely to have warehouses of unsold product to clear out)…nowhere really to go but up.

I have to admit to not finding prices in general anything all that outrageous, though, and there are still plenty of deals to be had (especially since so many labels have periodic 50%-off-plus sales).
