Re: Criterion Flash Sale Sep-Oct 2016 ??
Would the TRILOGÍA DE GUILLERMO DEL TORO be any cheaper than $46.92 if I wait for the BN sale?

Is buying directly from Criterion better than the half off sales from Barnes and Noble? It seems like it would take forever for me to reach 500 points since I never buy a Criterion at full price.

It does take a while to get a $50 gift certificate from Criterion. I'm sure the B&N sales are better, especially if you're a member (which I'll never be) and you can get the right combination of coupons/free shipping/driving to haggle with clerks/etc. I load up at both websites during these sales, though, so I don't mind letting the points accumulate at Criterion's site. I've also got my eye on a few things that should be available by the opcoming B&N sale, too.

Did one order mainly just to use that $10 credit. Between that $10 and the basically 10% from points, it's close enough to the B&N pricing for me, with no coupon uncertainty, since my stores sort of suck with them the last few years.

Re: Criterion Flash Sale Sep-Oct 2016 ??
That's a lot of questions.
I live in New York City and I'm not a member of Barnes and Noble. I just usually go in, buy or browse, then leave. I only buy Blu-rays. I don't have social anxiety. I think. Depending on the weather, I may have to add an additional $5.50 for my travel expenses. So usually I order online, or, if I'm traveling and I happen to be nearby a Barnes and Noble, I'll stop by so I don't need to make 2 trips. I don't mind working to get additional discounts.
I just feel that, for me, it would take forever to reach 500 points with Criterion.

I threw Criterion a bone this time around....there was probably 5 titles I want, but I settled on three to get the free shipping:
PAN’S LABYRINTH
Criterion Blu-Ray (CC2684BD) - Quantity: 1$19.97
BLOOD SIMPLE
Criterion Blu-Ray (CC2678BD) - Quantity: 1$19.97
THE THIN BLUE LINE
Criterion Blu-Ray (CC2462BD) - Quantity: 1$19.97
Subtotal: $59.91
The other two I considered were The Player & Inside Llewellyn Davis but I can get those easily during the B&N sale if I reconsider.

Used for $10 credit to get Pan's Labyrinth, Blood Simple, and The Graduate. With no tax and free shipping I got them just as cheap as I ever have got CC BD's at B&N.

I usually order replacement cases from Criterion during these sales, but I don't see them being offered - is there a valid link I'm not finding for them? --Peter

Re: Criterion Flash Sale Sep-Oct 2016 ??
The Hitchcock and Rock boxes and 2 of the best deals in the sale since the 4 included items would be 160 msrp separately, but 95 and then another 50% off so effectively a 70% discount from MSRP. Just have to finesse the FS out of it.
The Rock Box makes it pretty easy with the 29.95 Jimi at Monterey if you want to stay with the theme. Hitchcock you have to be a bit more creative, but there is M (Peter Lorre) or several of the $30 Film Noir if you want to stay in theme or DePalma to pull in the next generation Hitchcock influenced movies.

I still do the occasional B&N online sale since it bypasses those ridiculous employees.

I wish they'd do something like that 40% off single-item online "everybody" code that they released during the Arrow sale. I really cleaned up with that one several times over, especially on the boxed sets (including doubles for eventual resale up here to recoup some of my overspending), as well as the 20% off single-use and possibly even the 15% off $100 if I recall correctly. I seem to recall 15% off bones being thrown to non-members during previous Criterion sales, but not much else (maybe a 20% once upon a time??).

Actually it is a company policy issue since the stores like that can operate under their control. I have never had any similar problems at other B&M stores. At least when other stores refuse coupons, it can be backed up by the fine print.

In fairness to BN and other retailers, there are also good customers and bad customers. When the slickdealz army is constantly trying to circumvent fine print, manipulate cashiers, and exploit glitches, I can't blame some retailers for going on the defensive and swinging the pendulum to the other extreme.

That said, I have yet to have another B&N retailer refuse a coupon they themselves have put out there like B&N has done on multiple occasions. BB and Target are also good about accepting generic item coupons like those from Disney. Again, B&N, not so much.

Re: Criterion Flash Sale Sep-Oct 2016 ??
I picked up Blood Simple, Boyhood, and The New World for $54.91 after using the $10 credit. Off to win the lottery so I can buy the entire Criterion catalog (minus the ones I already have).

Hey, a lot of you people are mentioning a $10 credit. I'm a regular buyer at Criterion.com (but still with a LONG way to get that $50 gift card), what's the story behind the $10 credit?
