Now through 11/30/2019 Dollar General has buy one get one free on $4.95 titles from Movies U Buy.
As always selection varies greatly from store to store.
I picked up the following titles on Blu-Ray: Dirty Harry/Magnum Force, Coma (1978), Battle of the Bulge (1965), Fort Apache (1948), Manchurian Candidate (1962) and Big Trail (1930, early feature shoot in 65MM in a 2.1:1 aspect ratio).

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

opps--the BOGO sale on $4.95 titles was only through 11/27. tried to buy more titles today and the store manager explained that the tags sent to all the stores had incorrect dates (to 11/30), and they had to run around the store and pull all the incorrect tags.

That is why it caused chaos today when I tried to get them to ring up correctly. Took a manager override, had no idea.

I went to the Dollar General store earlier today to look for christmas chocolates or candy mostly. I did go check out to see if there were anything new for what they had in stock for movies. Heres what they have now that i noticed

DVD
Land of the Dead
Bullet to the Head with some other movie in those two in one movies for DVD
Christmas Story 2
new Patrick horror remake
Bad Boys 1 and II double movie two in one collection

blu ray. bunch of good decent stuff
-Hangover II
-Hangover III
-Hangover 1 and II double pack
Magic Mike XXX
-the old Clint Eastwood Beguiled movie
leftover horror movie stuff from Halloween: Apparition, 1970s Invasion of the Body Snatchers,

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

I found a Blu-ray copy of A Christmas Story 2 today for the same price they were selling the DVD for (3.95). I've also found a bunch of $1 horror movies on DVD over the last couple weeks (including several Full Moon titles... some, arguably, not even worth the $1). I had to dig for all these. Both stores in town had displays 3-layers deep (not to mention all the stuff you have to fight because the dvd's are always obstructed).

My nearest DG just got a ton of Universal product all of a sudden (You know things are different once you spot something like The Incredible Shrinking Woman there) Ended up getting a WB Christmas 4-pack though.

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

I wonder since i got a blu ray at walmart for 5 if that like a sale price cause holidays or the new reg price since they got a bin in front filled with br lol. i know this a dollar general column or section but since it pertains to blu rays, i thought was ok to ask or wonder any. i think last i saw br was like 7 or close at walmart while back, but guessing they getting cheaper or just cause holiday sale since no sign on area where they supposed to put price lol. i guess they being lazy so make u ask for price check or run to a scanner to double check any lol.

I went to the dollar general store just a few minutes ago and bought these movies

Dollman and Demonic Toys collection for DVD that was just a dollar

Transcendence for blu ray. That sci fi movie with Johnny Depp where its sort of like Lawnmower Man or whatever. Never seen it but been trying to hunt the movie but its never in any other stores until just recently at dollar general store

PhantomStranger 12-17-19 03:45 PM

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

Transcendence is merely okay. As you said, basically Lawnmower Man updated for today.

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

Grabbed Transcendence from Dollar Tree for $1 during the last batch that was available before Thanksgiving and it still had the code inside for the digital copy. For an okay movies it was a descent spend.

some Full Moon movies were a nice surprise to buy from the Dollar general store such as the Dollman and Demonic Toys Collection for DVD for just a buck along with Gingerdead Man which sounds insane to me. Gingerdead Man is basically Full Moon's version of Jack Frost

Mondo Kane 12-22-19 05:22 PM

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

The nearest DG used to stock Full Moon stuff regularly. They had a "Slashers" 3-pack with Delta Delta Die (Which I ended up getting) and I'll never forget the sight of the huge Trancers box-set in the racks. It's just too bad Full Moon doesn't ship their "Grindhouse" titles to DGs.

Found The Forest (Blu-Ray + Digital HD) at our local Dollar General, debating on whether to keep it or return it, reviews everywhere are generally unfavorable and I don't need any more deadweight in my collection...:(

If so I recommend people skip it as mine has some disc rot occurring.

I enjoyed The Forest. A decent horror movie that doesn't descend into schlock.

+1..Reviews are always subjective but enjoyed it as it's plenty spooky

Last couple of days, picked up East of Eden, The Killing Fields (both digibooks) and The Hangover Part II steelbook for $3.95 apiece.
Also picked 1 dvd, Pigskin Parade, for $1.95.

^As with my Dollar Tree, nothing new hasn’t been shipped in over 2 months.

There are Dollar General stores all around me. I stopped in one today that was relatively new. While I didn't purchase them, there were a few things of interest that I might pick up at some point.

Several copies of the East of Eden digibook mentioned before.

Also the Diamond Luxe version of Natural Born Killers (once more, several of them on the spinner rack)

Mondo Kane 09-30-20 08:35 PM

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

Picked up a Stephen King Blu there earlier (The Shining, Salem's Lot, Cat's Eye, It)

So I’ve been on a hunt for the Gremlins Diamond Luxe. I haven’t found that, but am coming across LOTS of other good deals at all different stores (there’s a ton around me).
Sunspecies was $1.95, Rise of the Zombies $2.95, Land of the Dead $4.95, and Warner Brothers Musicals $9.95.

For $4.95! 😮 I was most stoked about that, the gangsters box, Natural Born Killers and the Subspecies (even though it’s DVD)

Kiss Me Kate is 3D in that Musicals box, I believe.

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

I know this is dollar general stuff but recent read dolar tree to get new shipments to store around april30th. but know not all stores get media or every wave as they call it. and not al stores stock them the same time since i read news is around they get any and collectors and otehrs snag any gems to resell anytime by chance. so check places or even call and hope they say yes and check stores for new boxes any. can only guess they get calls asking for media almost anytime. and this pandemic may have caused sales to go up as sell more and faster any unles stream cause a lot of traffic to not buy as often as before. physical media always gonna be a topic cause stream only show so much and then pull stuff and add new anytime.

Mondo Kane 04-14-21 11:59 AM

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

Sadly, the selections at my nearest Dollar General are looking more and more like a Bible store. (God's Not Dead 1 & 2, Kirk Cameron's face, and the 10 million copies of Son Of God...Next to the 5 million copies of Terminator 3)

PhantomStranger 04-15-21 04:14 PM

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

The only Dollar General I ever visit carries very little media. It's a smaller location and often looks like a war zone.

I visited about 12 stores looking for Gremlins Diamond Luxe and almost all the stores were obliterated, some had DVD only, some no media, but 2 stores and some great stuff

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

Well, I did find a few things left. Any Given Sunday on Blu-ray for $5 and the Ocean's Eleven Triple-pack for $7. A lot more DVD than Blu-ray, however.

The register also spit out a coupon for $5 off a $25 purchase.

Why don't you just buy a Blu-ray player? They're not that expensive these days, and you could probably get a used one for a really good price at a pawn shop.

And if you say that you can't afford to buy one, just lay off buying discs for a week or two and spend the money that you would have spent on discs on the Blu-ray player.

Just a thought.

Exactly. And it's not like Blu-ray players don't play DVDs.

My nearest store finally got in some new movies...BUT they're all DVD only. Zero BDs. (The last BD I remember getting there was Woodstock)

I've also noticed that R-rated movies are becoming less & less available. The only R-movies they seem to stock are "New Releases" like Fatale and Antebellum, which are often in the $15 range.

Cardsfan111 03-06-24 12:31 PM

Re: Dollar General Blu-rays

Been a long while since Dollar General has been relevant to me when it comes to media. I don't pop in too often, though I have stores all around me. I happened to visit a location today and found signage that their DVDs are 50% off from 3/5-3/11. This applies to everything except the Sony/SDS? titles. At my locations, the non-qualifying titles are usually in one of the aisles on a normal wire rack display. The ones which should be 50% off are in the cardboard displays. I used the DG app on my phone to scan a few prices and it appears the sale applies on DVDs, BDs, 4K discs, the $1 previously viewed treasure hunt titles, etc., which makes for some possible deals worth checking out.

I didn't buy it, but I found a 4K copy of The Hurricane Heist which scanned for $1.48 ($2.95 sticker price).

I went ahead by 3 other stores without going out of my way. My best find was a Musical 4-pack on BD (The Band Wagon, Calamity Jane, Kiss Me Kate (includes 3D version according to outer wrapping) and Singin' in the Rain. Packaging also says it includes exclusive collectible art cards. Sticker price of $6.95 ($3.48 at half price)
