Arrow Video U.K. Festive Sale (until Jan. 18, 2016)

Just when I think I'm out . . .

http://www.arrowfilms.co.uk/shop/ind...tegory&path=89

Most are £7.99, or about $12.00 U.S., far more affordable than many U.S. versions even when they're on sale. Yes, they're often region-coded, but I'm sure that's not a deterrent to most folks here by now.

They're all amazing editions, BUT they were actually a bit cheaper during Arrow's own Black Friday sale recently, where they offered a number of "themed" packages for bundle prices. For example, all seven of their Vincent Price/Poe blu-rays were £40, which made them £5.71 (U.S. $8.50) apiece. Still, even at £7.99 they're a great bargain considering what's on the discs. Other "bundles" at the time included all the Bavas, all the Metzgers, the Tinto Brass films, the DePalmas, etc. Anything bundled was cheaper than it is in this sale, BUT you only really benefitted if you hadn't already bought any of them separately. In the case of the Bava set, I already bought all of them in previous sales (including last year's "Festive" Sale) at the same price they are now. That's still excellent value, but if there's any possibility of Arrow repeating the bundle sale, some folks might prefer picking up one-offs and standalone in this one. Tough call, really, but they are prone to repeating themselves, so . . .

Re: Arrow Video U.K. Festive Sale (until Jan. 18, 2016)

Just remember that a handful of UK Arrow releases were improved for American release. They had to fix the elevated black levels in Blind Woman's Curse, for example. Most are identical in A/V quality, though most UK releases were locked for a very long time.

Dozens of interesting Arrow releases with complete 1080P screen captures:

..it's a bummer that arrow is charging for shipping now, on the last sale they had if you ordered a single item at a time shipping was free..just saying...

Re: Arrow Video U.K. Festive Sale (until Jan. 18, 2016)

Their most recent sale was the Black Friday bundle sale mentioned above. They did indeed charge shipping, but on my order of the Price/Poe seven pack the per-disc price was still considerably below what I'd have paid had I bought the discs (even at sale prices) from the varied U.S. distributors that have released them. Arrow's shipping seems to be reasonable in conjunction with their sale prices. Free would be better, but still . . .

Re: Arrow Video U.K. Festive Sale (until Jan. 18, 2016)

Could be a price mistake, but Spirits of the Dead is way cheaper than anything else (2.99 pounds).

My order seemed to get free shipping...but I had over $80 USD worth of stuff...

Fairly certain that's not a mistake. I picked it up on Amazon U.K. a while back for around £3.99, thinking I'd scored the lowest price I'd find, and then I noticed it for £2.99 in one of the previous Arrow sales. It's a great disc (all-region, too), but perhaps it's never been a big seller so they have to let it sell at a bargain price most of the time?

I'm hopeful that next year's sales will have all of their newer and upcoming releases included -- I've pretty much acquired most of their catalog at this point thanks to these deals.

Hmm. This sale is mighty tempting. I need to give this one some serious thought. I'll likely pick up a few titles.

I think you need to order 50 pounds worth of stuff to get FS to USA.

Nope.

Btw, there's also a Nordic Noir sale going on, too. Most of it is DVD, but some are Blu-ray.

I put in an order right near the beginning of the sale, mid-December and just got the parcel yesterday (Jan. 4). It does take a while, sometimes. They're pretty good about resending orders that go missing, too, but might be worth waiting a bit.

Thanks!

I ordered on the 18th, so I'm coming up on the 3 week mark. Wouldn't hurt waiting another week or so.

Is the sale over? The site says January 18th, but looks like most of the sale prices are gone

Sale prices are still valid. Still showing up £7.99-9.99 for me at this link (for non-Steelbooks/LEs):

http://www.arrowfilms.co.uk/shop/ind...tegory&path=89

After 3+ weeks, I finally got my order in the mail from the 18th. I learned my lesson, don't order anything anywhere close to the holidays

I see what the problem is - I had forgotten I converted the site to US dollars last night! --Peter

Additionally - are all the more recent releases that have US counterparts actually Region A + B? I hadn't realized that, but noticed Blood and Black Lace and Nightmare City are both that way...I had just assumed they were Region B only, so that's a real bonus! --Peter

There are big differences between the Criterion and Arrow versions. Read up on the differences before making a purchase.
