We watched Every Man For Himself earlier tonight and the first few minutes had me wondering just what the hell I got myself into.

What did you think of it? Later Godard is always hit and miss. Initially viewing I thought it was good but had some annoying parts (slow motion?!). But as the days went by, I had a better take on it and it did feel refreshing and had flashes of what made Godard, Godard.

I'm not quite sure yet. I will give it a second viewing in a few days and then post my opinions. I thought the first few minutes were funny in a strange way.

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

Picked up
Black Stallion and Hiroshima, Mon Amour today.

I'm thinking this might be where I tap out this sale. Seven Titles total, which is three less than I planned to get. There's a couple more I wouldn't mind getting, but I'll never be able to watch them before a November sale. I'll likely never watch these either, but I wanted to lock them in just in case there for any reason there isn't a November sale.

It will feel wonderful to come in under budget for a change.

Wondering if it's worth saving $5 a piece to get A Night to Remember, The Uninvited and I Married a Witch as DVD instead of Bluray?

I've noticed a drop in quality in Criterion releases lately, too. The cover/back cover sheet for my copy of Love Streams is only about 7/8 as big as it should be, meaning that I've got about 1/8 of the case just completely clear. Even my $3 Big Lots Blus don't have that issue. Plus, I hate how they were doing the thick digicases for a while and have now switched back to the regular Blu Ray cases...causes inconsistencies on the shelf.

I mentioned it to the wife who basically said as long as I was splurging I should get the better versions so I went all Blu.

You should see my Criterion shelf, it has DVD and Blu, old and new case styles.

I think it adds something, really helps it feel like it's a collection of films from all over the world, different cultures and such.

But also, the physical media market is getting tighter, Criterion will need to cut corners too and I'd rather they take from the physical aspect rather than the transfer/supplements budget. I have no fear they'll totally cheap out, but they can make minor adjustments with little effect on the final product.

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

Made my 4th trip to a B&N today after I got off work.

Picked up:

The Sword of Doom
Repo Man
Le Samourai (DVD)

I think there are about 4-6 more titles on my Wish List and I will call it a day with this sale

Why be an asshole? Especially with some of the ridiculous crap that gets posted on here on a daily basis.

When your single titles retail at $39.99 MSRP, you should be offering top-notch quality in every area.

ETA: I just read through some of your other posts, and it seems like you spew idiocy at pretty much any chance given. Ignore my questioning.

How long is the sale going on for?

Also, any chance Le Samourai will be released on Blu-ray?

So far this time, got the following:

The Killers
The Organizer
Watership Down
The Confession
The Bridge
Sullivan's Travels

All at 20% off. If another coupon pops up this weekend, will pick up Black Stallion and maybe a couple of others; otherwise, I'll get them along with Breaker Morant & other Aug/Sept releases if the November sale happens.

Picked up Breaking the Waves, High and Low, Rififi, and Umberto D online for $76.43 after coupon and tax. I also got L'Avventura in-store. I may order a few more before Monday. Good deals

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

Broke down and picked up three more, but will still come in slightly under what I budgeted with the use of two $5 off $50 coupons.

definitely the last pick ups for this sale
Don't Look Now
Cries & Whispers
Fisher King

Had planned to completely pass on DLN as I wasn't a fan of it after having seen it once back in 2002.
Decided to give it a second look, and ended up watching it last night. Walked away with a radically different impression of the film this time and I would now classify it as one of the most satisfying psychological horror movies I've ever seen. This happened to me last year too with Picnic At Hanging Rock. Saw it back in the early 2000's and couldn't understand the hype. Gave it a second shot on Bd and walked away loving it. Return visits don't always pan out that well, but when they do it's enormously satisfying.

I just made a purchase and was told the same thing. I was going to post it myself but correctly figured someone beat me to it. He said they extended the sale because it did so well. Not sure if that's true, but I'll take advantage of it!

Please pardon my ignorance, but what coupon? I haven't received a coupon in email for awhile now, and I'm not a member of their discount subscription.

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

Went to my local B&N store on the way home from work. Probably my 4th trip during this sale. I skipped so many of the previous sales, I had a lot on my wish list!

I might make one more trip (or order) before the sale ends, but we'll see.

Picked up:

Seconds
The Wages of Fear
Killers

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

Considering getting a couple more titles with the new coupon, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me why the DVD of Sundays and Cybele is priced at 24.99 (rather than 29.99). The BD is 39.99 as usual, and they appear to have been released at the same time and have the same features. This is the only title I've seen with these prices for the DVD and BD, and I don't understand why it's different. Does anyone know?

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

In New York, the sale has been extended to Monday, August 3rd.

So far I've picked up:
DVD:
Silent Ozu: Three Crime Dramas
THE FURIES (1950)
RASHOMON (1950)

Blu-ray:
THE KILLERS (1946 and 1964 versions)
Pierre Etaix box set (5 features, 3 shorts)

I'm considering going back for:
TESS
THE RIVER (Renoir, 1951)
KISS ME DEADLY
VENGEANCE IS MINE
SANJURO
THE BAD SLEEP WELL

...and upgrading to new versions of SEVEN SAMURAI and YOJIMBO because the old Criterion editions I have offer few extras and the extras offered on these current editions look pretty damned good.

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

I need to use these two 20% off one item coupons they sent me in the mail before they expire on 7/31/15, but I don't want to drive to the nearest B&N store. How much would I be losing by using them online (and does anyone know if they will stack with any other coupons?) I know I won't get the extra 10% member discount online..
