Re: A big Arrow Video flash sale for the weekend

I know this question is slightly off topic to this thread, but has anyone heard anything about the likelihood of Rabid and Shivers being released by Criterion?

I've almost purchased the Arrow editions but would probably rather buy a region A release if there is one. I figured after Scanners and The Brood that these would be coming from Criterion as well.

Quick question: Is it better to buy in pounds or to use the arrow currency converter and purchase in USD?

Bit on 9 titles - felt like holding off until a favorable exchange rate but realized I had 3122 rewards points which gave a £15 discount. With a 1.36 exchange rate from Paypal, it wasn't too bad either. Region A prices can't touch this with a flag pole

Re: A big Arrow Video flash sale for the weekend

Pulled the trigger on :

Blood Rage
Contamination
Obsession
Sisters
The Fury
The Mutilator
The Stuff

Sisters and The Fury will be replacing dvd's I own, the other 5 I've never owned or seen. They are all blind buys. But blind buys that are right up my alley.

I was gonna get the Hellraiser set too until I noticed that its the exact same price from Zavvi, but even cheaper if you tack on one of those zavvi coupon codes floating around.

I was set to buy The Burbs steelbook and the Hellraiser set and apply the 10% off orders over 50 pounds coupon, but the 2 items came to exactly 49.98

Now I'm just trying to either find something that retails for less than a dollar (which isn't proving easy), or find something else I might be moderately interested in. Like the Aguirre Wrath of God steelbook (even though I own the Shout disc).

I heard recently that the US rights to Rabid are supposed to be tangled up between multiple parties, which is why Arrow didn't release it here. Doesn't sound like its coming from any label here anytime soon.
Shivers might be tied up in the same situation.

Re: A big Arrow Video flash sale for the weekend

Ordered the following:

- Lifeforce (cheaper than Shout!, seems to have better extras, too)
- Night of the Comet (again, cheaper than Shout!)
- Milano Calibro 9
- Lady Snowblood double feature (Criterion set looks WAY too blown out)
- Shivers (can finally retire my old Image DVD, yay!)

As always, will have to wait for another sale to get some other desired titles, but the above will do nicely in the meantime.

Nice. I just picked up a few titles. Between this sale and the Barnes And Noble one, it looks like I'm going to be watching a number of Arrow titles next month.

Re: A big Arrow Video flash sale for the weekend

Probably worth cross-checking titles that were in the recent Arrow sale at Barnes & Noble. Some are/were cheaper at B&N (which could repeat the sale some day), others are cheaper at Arrow.

Thanks to Arrow's previous sales and now B&N, I think I'll get off cheaply this time: there's not much left that I need, although that new edition of The Beyond is certainly tempting.

Oh, I didn't realize that was a new edition of The Beyond. If I had known that, I might have been tempted as well. Maybe next sale.

Picked up 'Stray Cat Rock' set (Region B) for $20 shipped with points. That's it for me on this one

Maybe "new" isn't the best term in this case. They've released it before to some controversy (b&w intro, shorter run time), albeit with what I recall were more extensive extras on a second disc, but I never took the chance even after corrected versions became available. I'm assuming this recently-released edition corrects the earlier faults and whatnot, but seems to drop the second disc and still carries the 84 minute run time. The U.S. edition is probably the preferred version at this point.

Also worth noting that orders over £50 still qualify for free shipping.

Is the Stray Cats set Region B locked? I know it's got a Stateside release, but I suspect the UK edition was issued before they branched into the US. [And yes, I know their site states it's Region B, but I recall that's not always accurate.] --Peter

the UK release is is Region B locked. Confirmed on Arrow's own site and Bluray.com. Stateside release is Region Free though. Surprisingly the UK edition is supposedly out of print but here it is on Arrow's site

Re: A big Arrow Video flash sale for the weekend

There's a note about Arrow UK finding some copies while cleaning the warehouse and they added them to their site special for the sale, which is why I was asking. I'm suspecting it's not a release for my permanent collection, so weighing options for future re-sale. --Peter

I believe I have the first release, although I don't recall the intro right now. I know Arrow did new editions of some Argento titles, but I guess I forgot about The Beyond. Didn't Bay of Blood also get reissued?
