And on a side note (unrelated to Amazon), I'm hating stores even more for starting the BF madness at 6 PM on Thanksgiving. It barely leaves you time for Thanksgiving dinner. Next year I bet they'll start even earlier and soon it'll be Black Thanksgiving starting at 6 AM and then Thanksgiving at midnight and then Wednesday at 10 PM and then Wednesday at 6 PM when some of us are still at work. B&M stores, please lay off! I think anything earlier than 8 PM on Thanksgiving is totally unacceptable, yet we have to accept it. I wish the employees at these stores could boycott them and refuse to go into work early so that stores will stop trying to turn what should be a restful holiday with family into another day of shopping madness. I'm already on the edge of getting burned out by BF, and they're starting to push it. I keep thinking someday I'll say "it's not worth it" and just ignore BF week like it doesn't exist, but my willpower/anger hasn't quite reached the necessary level yet.
I just do not get this line of thinking. Nobody is forcing anybody to go to these stores at 5 pm on Thanksgiving. As an adult, each and every one of us can choose to ignore the madness, spend time with the family and pay a little more in the coming days OR we can go all in at the early times and forgo Thanksgiving dinner. Each individual will have their own priorities. If you want to come at it from the point of how crappy it is for the employees, than I am right there with you. They are the only ones being forced to show up and have their Thanksgiving screwed. |
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
My guess is that some stores will move to open all day on Thanksgiving, while larger chains hold back the BF items until 6 or 8 PM on Thanksgiving. Honestly, having the sales start at 8 PM makes a lot more sense than forcing everyone to get up at 3 AM and wait in the freezing dark for Friday. West Coast people don't understand how cold it gets in the rest of the country on Thanksgiving most years.

Re BF: due to the economy, I may be losing my home in a few months which would require severe downsizing. So my BF thinking is a couple of huge (& I mean huge) external hard drives for my huge music cd collection & then sell the cd's off.
I don't see that as a realistic option for dvd or blu's. |

Is this really a choice most of us agonize over? Probably not, but I hate missing a deal as much as the next guy. |

That's an odd time to start a lightning deal, the last time something like this was posted, it turned out to be a Deal of the Day which typically starts at 3am Eastern
DOTD or LD, just wanted to inform the masses. My guess on price? $21.99 |
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
I've only seen Spaceballs (which I loved) and Young Frankenstein (which I wasn't crazy for) but if this goes for $20-22ish I'm in for a blind buy!

I think most of the ire has been concerning the employees being forced to work. What I don't know is how much of this is coercion or if the workers are mostly Volunteers with the bonus of Holiday Pay (2x. 2.5x or 3x). I don't know what the pecking order is, but when I was younger there was absolutely nothing special enough about Thanksgiving that I wouldn't have considered moving Dinner to Saturday if needed.

It would be nice if there was just more respect for the major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we're living in a totally different world than what I used to live in, so I guess it's too much to ask for any kind of responsibility, other than trying to get every penny from the not-so-educated consumer. |
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
What's more important, time with your kids or toys for your kids?
When I was young, for the holidays my parents gave me a few small gifts and one big gift, which was probably a $50 purchase. And while I wished I had a Super Nintendo, I didn't expect one. It wasn't my money. Besides, since Amazon usually mirrors most of the stuff the other places are putting on sale, the need to go to a physical store has dropped considerably. |

It wasn't my money. The saddest thing is that some parents don't pick either of the choices you describe...preferring instead to go out to buy toys for themselves. |
Re: Amazon Countdown to BF Week - Lightning Deals Calendar
I don't like the trend and honestly don't care for how it creeped earlier and earlier on Friday and will inevitable move earlier into Thanksgiving day and probably Wednesday too. That said, I don't like the crowds on Friday at any time and find little of it truly worth it, but people still go and will go which only encourages the stores to do it.

Apparently Wal-Mart is this year. I could not find the original site that I read it on, but this gives a slight mention to what I had seen elsewhere.
