Not really, honoring another store's price counts as the "promotion price", and this is a coupon for trading in a DVD, basically they are buying it and giving you store credit just for a Blu-Ray. This should not be considered double dipping at all. Plus I had asked first if I could, which they said yes. So I traded DVDs in which I could not get back. Now I'll never use these.

Given the forum's rules, I don't see an issue with pointing out questionable behavior. If people want to do it, so be it, i'm far from the most honest and respectable person out there . But it also doesn't seem like something someone should happily write or brag about. Kind of reminds me of people openly talking about downloading leaked albums here.

Doesn't sound much different from buying an item, and returning a different/cheaper product in the same box instead to get away with something more expensive.

Re: Best Buy Upgrade & Save 4/21/13 - 5/11/13

I swap the cases on all the DVDs I trade in with Eco Cases, gasp!

Also another weird cs experience. I had the physical coupons this time and the cashier called the manager over to check out "some random coupons". When I asked him if he was aware of the Upgrade and save program he said "I have been working here 6 years and I have never seen anything like this". The manager came over, looked at him for a second and then scanned the barcodes on the coupons and walked off.

Decided to get this Firefly thing everyone has been raving about all these years. $20 for the series, the movie and a ticket to Oblivion seemed like a decent deal.

Do we have actual confirmation on this, other than Best Buy's word? I simply find it hard to believe, because there are several large DVD resellers that would likely pay money to Best Buy to sort the wheat from the chaff. Of course Best Buy leaving money on the table in a business transaction wouldn't be unheard of, it's not the smartest-run company.

Sounds good. You can send me $5 and a receipt. I'll send you back $1 stapled to the receipt and write "good for $5." Sounds like we both win since you can't seem to see the difference.

If I were a righteous person, then I wouldn't be in the muck with the rest of the participants of this forum, as that'd be "beneath me," but nice attempt at rationale. Next, what advantage do I have in pointing out that the greed of the few lead them to be braggarts about ill-begotten/ill-deserved deals? NONE. Since when was the right thing EVER about personal gain? Or, since you want to typecast me, can I do the same in assuming you do EVERYTHING to satiate ego? Further, do you have a problem with a line being drawn by those in charge over what's acceptable and what isn't, because what was brought up by others was the questionable nature of a few posts. Taking advantage of idiot employees is one thing. Bragging about it brings it to a whole 'nother level. ADVISING OTHER PEOPLE ON HOW TO DO IT is flat fucking wrong.

Best Buy employees are, by far and large, stupid, seeing as they cannot read the signs in their own stores. But some of the things people advise others to do is like taking a gun to a freaking zoo and calling it sport.

In case anyone missed it the first time, this works great. The recycle disintegration machine will never know the difference, I promise.

Now if I could only find a way to live with my tortured conscience.

The reason I find it hard to believe that they just throw everything out or recycle it is because they have existing relationships with Buybak/Newtownvideo on their website for trading in DVDs for Best Buy gift cards.

It's completely different. You're talking about RETURNING an item and getting your money back. The store then sends the item back to the manufacturer, who will then refuse to give the store their money back. The trade-ins are solely a PROMOTION to get people in the store to buy more blu-rays, and hopefully other stuff. The discs are THROWN OUT. Nobody is getting ripped off here...

Taking advantage of blatant pricing mistakes causes the store to lose money, yet most people here don't have a problem with that. That's more an example of stealing than trading in only 1-disc out of a 2-disc set, which are going to be recycled.

All 4 stores that I have asked have said the same thing. They will not be re-sold. They're all being recycled. They even told me I can trade in sampler discs cuz it's all being tossed...

While I know they're not exactly the same, in both cases you're deliberately going out of your way to fool/trick Best Buy in to accepting something they wouldn't normally. Price mistakes (for the most part, anyway) don't involve the customer doing anything different for the transaction.

You can justify it with whatever Best Buy does with the discs, that doesn't mean you're not deceptively working around the system.

Please show me anything from Best Buy stating that you must return multiple discs. All it says in "trade in a DVD." I'm not fooling or tricking them. I'm trading in a DVD. That's all they want. That's all they're getting. What about people trading in a box set as separate DVD's? That's equally as "deceptive"! They are separating ONE title into 4-5 separate titles. I see no difference.

How can you say they are "accepting something they wouldn't normally." NORMALLY? This promotion is the ONLY time they accept trade-ins. This is an normal as it gets. "Normally" a store would not accept a box set broken up into separate discs for multiple trade-ins. "Normally" a store would not accept sampler discs as trade-ins. But Best Buy does. They allow it. No laws are being broken here. I'm glad you aren't in charge of this promotion... Like I said, Best Buy just wants to bring in more business. They don't give a crap what is traded in. The only rule is "no porn." If they cared, they'd have many more rules than that.

I'm not saying the stores are not being told that, but if you think for a minute that some guy at the recycling machine is not giving it a good look over before he tosses it in, then I laugh in your general direction . Well, if they have any brains they are. Now mind you, 98%-99% of the stuff we are giving is trash (especially if the norm is to use extras discs or samplers), but there has to be some gems in there. Just my two cents.

First of all, bragging is a state of the heart. You have no proof anyone was bragging or just stating what they did, perhaps even trying to help others.

Second, you are not really in a position to enforce the rules, so attempts at continuing tp point at the faults of others (all the while insinuating that you would never cross such a line) does speak of self-righteousness.

Third, you are ASSUMING that it is the "right thing to do". Who appointed YOU Judge and arbitrator of the situation. Why do you even care, or do you really think you are helping others by arguing over such a trivial matter.

Fourth, I doubt you will understand my motives unless you really desire to do so.

Then start laughing! I doubt they are bothering to waste their time. The odds of that person being a DVD collector like us is VERY small. They're just gonna do their job and destroy the shit. They aren't gonna waste their time looking through it... They aren't blu-rays. They're worthless used DVD's. And they sure as hell aren't gonna know what is out of print.

I think this thread has derailed. I realize I'm one of those responsible, so I'd like to get it back on track. Can someone please post more purchases that they have made with U&S?

Traded in 3 but only picked up Batman (1989) for $4.99. Will visit another Best Buy and see if I can unload the other 2 coupons.

On a new note, I did finally find a copy of Limitless. Might also grab The Collector for $4.99 at some point.

Sigh...It's not an U&S thread without someone posting some morally grey method they've used as if we're all supposed to applaud them for their shenanigans followed by several PAGES of fighting over whether it's wrong, whether it's the forum members job to be the morality police, what the ultimate fate of the traded DVDs is, blah-blah-woof-woof.

Here's what I do: I have about 50 crappy kiddie DVDs I've bought from Dollar Tree for a quarter (or sometimes a penny!) each that I hand in and there is no question as to whether I'm gaming the system because I'm not.
